Tried out hammer... I like!
« on: June 02, 2010, 11:17:05 PM »
I was having a lot of trouble with my bowling equipment. Scores were up but it took everything I had to just get my stuff to move. I was throwing ebonite evolve, roto-grip rogue cell (couldnt get this to move an inch), storm t-road pearl, columbia apogee, and a while back some other stuff.

So about a week ago my brother decides hes going to sell me his blue vibe. He was experimenting with span but didnt want to drill it again as he could have bought a second vibe at that point and was telling me it was his strongest ball in his bag. I didnt believe him at all as he had a storm rapid fire and a black widow (with the wrong layout.... he used to spin it but we fixed that by moving his lateral pitch in the thumb) We had taken it to 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 and left it dull before he sold it to me.

So fast forward and I get on the lanes and throw the t-road. It hits ok but really is so butter smooth on the back and I was WAY right, then I move to the evolve and same thing but just slightly better backend. Next I throw the blue vibe and it passes brooklyn! So first thing I think is ok its only because I''''m on a house shot and it likes the dry as its a drier lane ball. I get deeper and deeper AND DEEPER on the lane and it just keeps coming back! I also tried it on a pba pattern and still it was stronger then all my equipment. simply amazing. and no the pba pattern wasnt something like the viper or cheetah because I really couldnt get anything to move on it and never did find out what pattern it was.... maybe scorpion? but point is it still hooked about the same up front as my evolve and still had a better look on the backend.

with the success I had with the blue vibe I went to my pro shop and said "I''''m done with these brands, I had a no mercy a few years ago and it was money, and now the vibes working. Give me something for heavier oil with good backend but it has to be hammer"

(keep in mind I made fun of everyone who owned a jigsaw ball calling it junksaw and corner split)
I drilled up a jigsaw corner with my favorite layout and finally I can say I have exactly the look I wanted. Secure read thru the fronts with a quick and continuous move on the backend and thats a reliable look, not I have to split boards to find the pocket or carry. My friend said I could have thrown the ball anywhere and struck and it was true! (I dont usually bowl on house shots so I knew it was the house shot helping me big time but even with that in mind I can tell this ball is very good!)

They need to change their saying to nothing HOOKS like a hammer :-)

I hope when I take peoples money they are comforted by the fruity smell of their bowling ball HAHAHA

( the only other two companies I was thinking of was 900 global which id have to order everything and is more expensive IF I order thru my normal proshop and track as ive heard good things, however that was mostly in the 505a, 505c, and 715c so I wouldnt have much choice for heavier oil as I did hear some complaints in my area on the 9 series balls.)

I also forgot to mention that I got to see my pro shop operator throw almost all of the new hammer balls.

midnight vibe (goes very very long but just enough bite to make it back, I didnt see anything crazy from this ball but I think its a welcome change for those that knew the older vibes were too much ball at times.)

Backlashes (just what you would expect, the blue one read the lane better due to it being dull and the polished one he said needed a weight hole as it went a little too long for him)

jigsaw trap (It does what one would expect, goes long due to it being polished but it retains that deep continuation on the back yet it does it later and quicker then the other jigsaws... definitely a winner)

hardcore hammer grind (This was his favorite one and I could see why. He was very deep with this ball and it had a fantastic look on the lanes. I dont know how else to describe it except, long and strong, it had no problem turning the corner)

didnt get to see the plague, it was in his bag but I''m betting it was simply too much ball. I asked him if he agreed that it was the new widow remake and he said yes. the core is there to mimic the same numbers but with a different cover and this tweaked core it makes its move in a slightly different way and due to it coming OOB 2000 grit, it will read the lane sooner then previous balls.
