Black Widow....mass bias negative

Ebonite says don't do it!

Brunswick says don't do it!

Hammer on their high mass bias Black Widow series says.


Do it! Drilling #4

Anoyone knows what the mass bias rating on the black widow series is?

The one/NV series is listed as .027 the Brunswick "do not do this" ballls are listed as .017.  

These???

Talking about the Black Widow series. I haven't ever seen a one/nv series ball...or for that matter any of the brunswicks with the negative mb layout. then again, there are only a handful of people in our area who've got a problem controlling backend...so not a lot of people are going to be considering this kind of a layout.

So how come folks buy a BW or BWP which have strong back end reactions, even skid/flip on some lanes and then put a drilling on it to smooth out the whole reaction?

Why not just buy a ball that has a smoother reaction in the first place? It is not like you can turn a switch to change the reaction. Once drilled, it is what it is, unless you plug it and redrill it.

I would guess for the same reason why people come on here and question other people's succesful layouts.

My Black Widow's still have nice a pop on the back end, this drilling for me just keeps the ball from going nuts, which for me is a no no.

I actually rarely threw solids, but I decided to try out the BW, and my driller watched me throw a couple shots said lets try this, and the ball has been great.

I almost sold it recently, because it was losing it's reaction, then I resurfaced it, hot water treatment, then took it to the shop and had it brought back to box surface, and first game with it 289 with the back 10.

The Black Widow Pearl does not get as much use, but it is very good for really easy house shots lol.

I do not understand why you would be saying something like that.  If you buy a ball, and you can't use it because it's too strong, would you not change the surface?  Well if so, then why did you buy the ball since you can't use it for what it's designed for?  If the lay out have is making the ball burn up, would you want to change it?  Well according to you guys that's wrong, because the ball is supposed to do one thing, so put the strongest lay out on it and deal with it even if you can't use it.  That does not make much sense to me.

Putting the MB on the other side of my thumb hole, did not kill the backend reaction.  It did not make the ball a non hooking spare ball.  It tamed it down and made a more smooth back end reaction, which is what I need.  The ball has been a killer, so I think I made the right decision.

Bowlers have different views on how to layout equipment.  "Don't try and put a skid/flip drilling in a rolly ball like the LEVRG or ect..."  I ask why not? This doesn't mean the ball is going to skid/flip.

That's the same type of response I got several years ago when I wanted to dull a pearlized ball.  I was told not to dull a pearlized ball because that's not what it was designed for.  I didn't listen and went ahead and took the polish off the pearl ball.  Guess what?  I found an awesome reaction by taken the polish off.  

A bowler can take 4 different balls and use the same exact layout and get 4 completely different reactions.  The cover and cores will separate the reaction between the balls.
