Actually acetone is used in one widely distributed ball cleaning product which I have used with no loss of reaction, too bad it's ILLEGAL! Still, acetone is very effective in spot cleaning hard to remove belt marks, etc.
As for Isopropyl Alcohol, it's what I use as a "daily cleaner" and have done so for the past 20 years! It safely restores the tacky feeling and beats many expensive products in removing that glaze that forms from certain lane conditioners. I use several other commercial products for deep cleaning, but at about $1 for 16oz's of Isopropyl it can't be beat. I have never experienced it leaving a residue or haze as long as you wipe it off thoroughly (I use a spinner)
Another very popular and inexpensive cleanser is Simple Green. This stuff is absolutely nasty (I need to wear a respirator to avoid inhaling the fumes) but it does everything most commercial cleaners do and at a fraction of the cost (mix it at a 50/50 concentration and save some big bucks!).
You can keep spending $8-$10 for 6-8 ounces of commercial ball cleaners, but these products contain nothing that you couldn't buy yourself. Save some money and only use these commercial cleaners when you really feel you need to. On a day to day, sesssion to session basis, any of the above "generic cleansers" will do the job.
Commercial products I recommend:
Black Magic
Clean and Dull
Reaction Plus
Instead of Ebonites Energizer just buy a 32 oz bottle of "Orange Blast" for about $6. It'll do the same thing.
Take a look at my profile, click on the link......do you really think I'd use inferior cleansers on my "arsenal"?
