Well guys I have 3 Dooms which most of you already know. Well I decided to get another one. That will make it number 4. These are how mine are drilled and would like some suggestions on how I should drill #4.

Doom #1 drilled pin above the bridge 5.5" from my pap, CG kicked right to 1oz and no balance hole. Ball is in box condition.

Doom #2 drilled exactly like Doom #1 but the cover is dulled to 1000 grit.

Doom #3 drilled stacked leverage with the pin high above the finger to pap line. I have a balance hole on my mid line but an inch past my pap. The balance hole is drilled 1" diameter 2.5" deep. This brought the side weight back to zero. I did this to firm the break point a bit. It worked which actually surprised me. The cover is dulled to 600 grit but will be changing it too 1000 grit because 600 is just way too strong and makes this Doom hook way too much.

So how should I drill Doom #4? See my profile for any bowler info.

On a side note I can't put the pin below the fingers because I have a high ball track. So i'm limited to high pin placements which kind of sucks.

Well I was thinking of trying to drill this Doom for control. I want to see how much control I could get out of it with out loosing hitting power. In fact what I would really love to do is drill it with the pin below the bridge and kick the cg right and use a balance hole to fine tune the reaction.

The problem with low pins is I track high and will clip the fingers with those below the finger drillings. Now with asymmetrical balls I can get away with pins below the finger layouts. I have no idea why that is.

Wow, chitown 4th doom already! I though u goin to wait for the PAIN and the BLACK WIDOW. My pro shop guy said the BLACK WIDOW is about the same thing as DOOM but its go a little bit longer(length) and the snap. About the 4th one, I would save it just in case something happen to one of those 3 u got or drill it like DOOM #1 with balance hole and make it extra polish for dry lane. Cuz it seem u got all those ball cover med-heavy oil already might as well make one for dry lane.

Chitown, I have two friends that track relatively high, and have had success using pin under drillings/ The only stipulation is that i have used low holes, that are decent in size, which have lowered the track flare. just give yourself ample side/thumb weight to play with when you kick the CG.
The reason why you can place pins low on assym balls, is because they lower track flare. I do not know the cause, only that my PAP on low flaring assym balls is lower than on low flaring symmetric balls.

Chi i think that something like a Pin axis or CG axis might be a good idea. I know u track high but i remeber that i think Ram tracked high and he drilled a Fuze with Rico and shifted the pin to the right like 1 inch to not nick the fingers. I think any of thoes would be nice

Unless I'm way off on the layout, you could go about 4" pin to pap, cg kicked 1/2" and that'd put your pin about above/to the right of ring. I have 2 laid out like that and I don't track over thumb. Our pap's aren't exact, but not far off. Worth a shot ,lay it out and have your driller see what he thinks, just a suggestion.

remember,.....even if you track high,....there are times even on symmetrical stuff where you can have the pin low, as long as it's on a line thru your pap that continues at least even with your fingers....like this

I still plan on buying the Pain. The Doom is cheap enough for me to experiment with. Maybe a pin axis layout is the key? I do have med/heavy covered. I've got a week to figure it out. The ball is sitting at the pro shop. I'm going out of town for the week end and will pick it up next week. So hopefully I can decided with the help from you guys on which layout to use.

Guys what kind of hitting power does a 2 by 5 layout give you? I know it's not pin on the axis but it is similar. Plus what kind of condition would this be best on? I would assume that dry lanes would be the way to go with this layout.

Another question I have is how do I get a little more tilt on my ball. What way can I lower my track a little to be able to use pin below the fingers layouts?

A while back I had a Killer Instinct pearl and it was a very good ball. I had a pin below the bridge layout on it. I also had a balance hole 2" below my pap. I tracked really close to my fingers and thumb but did not clip any holes. I got a nice string arc motion from that layout. I wish I could use that on a Doom.

ChiBaby- Man....here is my experience......I haven't found an "axis" layout that I like, or am satisfied with. Pin axis blows, CG axis blows, 2X2 blows......I just hate to see you do this and change your opinion of the ball. I also have had very little success with "axis" layouts on symetrical balls.

Looks like your PAP and mine are close.

Axis balls roll early, and hit like a wet napkin for me. I know someday I will run into a condition that calls for one and I will be out, but I just can't loose that HIT and be competitive.

Here is what I suggest. You don't have a WEAK CG Doom yet, right? What I mean is, your weakest CG layout is stacked. Why not try a 90*, or greater, layout. I really have had success with these type layouts. This will weaken the CG, allow the ball to push a little extra, and then the ball will ARC off of the spot. This will work well on broken down, or lighter oil conditions. I know.....you can change had positions........... Bottom line:

My suggestion....
5.75" Pin to pap. Which if placed high enough would be on, or really close to your center line, with a 90* layout. This will put the CG on the "neg" side of the ball. As long as it doesn't have high top it SHOULD be OK. This will give you a different look than any other DOOM you have.
