Black Widow pros/cons???
« on: January 16, 2008, 05:59:17 AM »
I am interested in getting a Black Widow and was wondering what everyones pros and cons were as far as surface and reaction and conditions it is best on. All input will be greatly appreciated...

Early death is the only problem with the original Widow.

For some it is too long especially if drilled with the mass bias under the thumb.

Seems to be a very little midlane ball...lots of backend with a smoothness but continuous angular drive off the spot.

But if you are bowling on light midlane oil etc and then maybe carrydown it is the cats meow for many!

A powerhouse on the back...with over/under potential.

I think the BW as with any asymmetrical bowling ball with decent MB strength really needs to be laid out correctly for your game.  I have had my best success placing the MB close to my VAL on all asymmetrical bowling balls.

The BW is really strong on the back end.  If your bowling on a lot of oil and really clean back ends then the ball may be a little hard to control.  Of course there's a lot of factors involved with saying that!

The control on the back end is the only CON I see with the BW. On the right conditions this ball is killer.  I have seen many bowlers put up some huge #'s with this ball!

I clean mine after every session, and have no signs of "cover death". I use mine ALOT, and haven't zero troubles. One of the best balls ever, IMO.

It's a great ball. Lucky Lefty has the description nailed.  Cleaning is essential!

What was odd for me is that I hated the reaction right out of the box and any time I cleaned it.  I have mine drilled with the pin left of the ring cg stacked below, but the MB offset to the right and under the thumb.  I am a lefty by the way.

The ball is super smooth.  I am going to get another one drilled the same as mine has seen better days.

Agreed! I have used all three of my BWs (and my Bite as well) at 2000 grit. The read is much better, and the ball is still very strong.
