Title: What ball should I get???
Post by: cjholes on November 12, 2007, 12:55:14 PM: Im pretty new at bowling and i throw 15 mph and I spin the ball. Im looking at the Hammer series i want a ball that has a nice hook, consistent, that I can learn with, and works well on most lane conditions. Right now I can bowl a 170 with the house balls but id like to take my game to the next level
should i get the
BW
BWP
BWC
Anger (thats what im leaning towards)
Doom
Toxic
NM
NMB
Vibe
or is their another ball I should be looking at?

2. Get a Doom.
3. Heavy oil balls means NOT more hook on any conditions.
4. The Hawkzila will "work" for you and after 20 games just stop in a way you will not be able to explain.
5. It is a common mistake for a newbies to get a heavy oil hookmonster. Save your money don't do it.

On the heavy side there is no real angular ball. The "No Mercy" with the Drilling #1 (dependig on your PAP) is the most backendish ball i have ever thrown. The bad with this ball is, it was allmost uncontrolable for me and this ball needs real good maintanence, much more then any other i ever had.

On the med-heavy side you can Ãºse Doom or Toxic. For me this two ball are allmost equal. Toxic skids longer, Doom grabs the lane earlyer. Also you can take off the polish, then the Toxic will read also earlyer with bit loss in the Backend.

Again the Doom is in your first year the best ball to go, very controlable easyer to learn with, better looking and the coverstock can be changed to take tons of oil, just ask your local shop. The best of all is, you can save money, buy yourself a spare ball and pay a part of the Lesson you will need for a good start.

Post by: bluerrpilot on November 13, 2007, 08:06:17 AM: Since its your first ball. Get the cheapest one you can and drill it with a 4" pin to pap and somewhat low(maybe below the fingers) That should give you a decent amount of hook, yet be smooth in the back

Post by: Redline on November 13, 2007, 04:25:11 PM: I wouldn't say the Doom fits between the Toxic and Anger. If anything, at least for me, OOB with the same layout...the Toxic is smoother in the backend, and the Doom goes a bit longer and is a bit more angular. In terms of overall hook, I think the Toxic outhooks the Doom by a couple boards. Playing the same line w/same target I'm about 1-2 boards left with my feet using the Toxic.

You can't really go wrong with either one. I prefer the Toxic over the Doom, but that alone shouldn't really matter.

As far as drillings, I'd talk to your driller about it. Without knowing too much about your style and stats...I'd just stick with something simple like a label layout or something.

Post by: cjholes on November 13, 2007, 09:00:02 PM: i dont really know how else to spin it, on the house ball i tried it with my thumb and it hurt my wrist and it didnt feel comfortable, i think it could be different with a thumb hole farther from the 2 holes then i think i could get the same effect, and i get no spin if i use 2 fingers with the house balls
