Title: Wierd Looking Black Widow
Post by: Poxy Boggard on February 26, 2007, 08:16:06 AM
Got a new black widow last week.  The cover looks nothing like the pictures I have seen of this ball.  The Spider is almost pink, and there are alot of red and pink swirls on the cover.  Is this abnormal?  Did I get a blem ball?  One of the guys on my team has one as well and it is almost pure black minus the label which is orange/red not pink.  I'll post a picture when I get home, but was just curious to see what you all thought.

IT is just a variant on the colors from the pouring process. We had one come into the shop froma warehouse in Pennsylvania that was 3/4 red and had a very phazed swirl pattern. Ball worked the same, just a different color.

I think that around Christmas time they added more red to the pour. I noticed that any Black Widow from around summer to December was almost all black, maybe a few red swirls, but anything since christmas is almost 50/50 red to black.

If you polish it, though, it still looks completely black going down the lane.

Mine has a pinkish Widow, and some red swirls in it. I saw one this weekend with a TON of red/pink in it, and it looked sick! Very cool looking ball.

I got mine very early in the release, and it is almost completely black.  They had to have changed something, because all the new ones I see have a ton more red in them.

Thanks for the input!  I just wanted to make sure that I didn't get a factory blem.  The ball is pretty wicked and I like what I have seen of it so far.  Makes a really hard move to the pocket.  I'll post a picture when I get home tonight.

My one Widow has about 1/3 red and its in a funky swirl around the ball, looks pretty neat and its not bad reaction wise, great ball, my other one has a little bit of dark red swirl in it.

I've got a BW as well and I can barely tell that the ball has any red in it at all.  it looks completely black even holding it directly in front of me.  i don't really understand why they bothered with adding the red anyways... if it looks black then why bother with the red?

I agree!  The BW I used to have was almost all black.  There was a small hint of Red.  I like the all black bowling balls like the No Mercy and BW.
