USBC All America Championships
« on: January 09, 2007, 11:32:25 PM »
I'm wondering what you feel about this event and USBC's requirements, i.e. must be a varsity HS bowler, have a 3.0 GPA and have community service. This is just to apply......then they decide who gets to participate. Then on top of all this, at the end they will call the winners the best HS bowlers in the country.

Any thoughts?

SP, sounds like a good idea. Why don't we call it the Touchy-Feely Open?

Sorry, that's a mistake.....this isn't "open" at all. Let's call it, the touchy-feely - depends who you are and what you do tournament. I've got another idea. How about we have the girls all wear short dresses and put a bowling alley in front of a Nordstroms and pretend someone cares. Oh, I forgot, they already did that.

Neither does mine. How does it feel to be excluded from this? Doesn't it make you feel good to be required to pay annual membership dues and get nothing for it?

High school bowlers do not pay USBC sanctioning. So the benefits of this tournament is strictly for non-members of our illustrious association.

Maybe not, but my guess would be a very high percentage of high school bowlers bowl in either sanctioned leagues or other sanctioned tournaments which would require payment of the useless fee. So they get it one way or the other. By the way, how long you think it will take before they start requiring high school bowlers to pay the fee for the pleasure of bowling in high school?

It is my understanding that high school sport associations prohibit students from having to pay dues to any association as a condition of their participation. Ergo, USBC can't collect from these kids for their high school bowling. Plenty of the kids are sanctioned elsewhere but I think it's ridiculous for USBC to sponsor/host a tournament a.) not open to probably 90% of the youth bowlers in the country; b.) open to those not affiliated officially with the USBC; c.) called an All American Championship when it will be anything but, with them reserving the right to chose the contestants.
