Ok guys, first of all... I feel this is a ball that everyone needs in their bag. It may not be the right ball for just any league condition, but on something short and fresh, you wont beat the roll this ball gives ya. I have thrown two different layouts. One being pin above the middle finger, and the other being pin above ring and to the right. Neither balls needed a wieght hole.
What I did notice however, is that if you have any surface at all on them, they wont work as great. The cut off Core rolls very heavy, and doesnt rev up that easily so the more surface the less backend it has, etc. I actually even tried both of mine at high surfaces such as 4K Abralon, and still didnt like the reaction. I then added polish to both balls and they became great in some many ways. I have made enough money with my two Gemstones that I have with any other ball in my bag. I can however, say they wont work on oil though so dont try to bring them out at the wrong time. Even at the highest of grits being 4K, the ball seems to want to really roll true throughout the heads and then on the backend as well.
All in all, I am very very impressed with this piece. On the right condition, it gives you what no other bowler has on the lanes. I would give it a strong 9.5 and I have had quiet a few games on my Gemstones. Thanks for reading and feel confident in thinking this ball will work on drier conditions. John Davis

The Lane #1 Gemstone may be the best dry to medium-condition ball ever! Due to health reasons, my ball speed is down about 3 mph. I am now extremely rev dominant. Every ball and everywhere I bowl now hooks way too much. I have been searching for, and trying, just about every company's balls for drier lanes. I have tried just about every layout. I have tried every surface prep.Nothing has worked remotely well. Everything has either flat out hooked way too much, or has been uncontrollable on the backend. Carry has been non existent, when I do occasionally get to the pocket. I really miss my high performance balls, that I can no longer get down the lane. It may be too soon to tell, but initial tests look very good! I drilled the Gemstone 5x 3 3/8, with a 2" pin buffer. Pin high.
The ball glides cleanly through the heads, reads the midlane smoothly, and then arcs hard, but controllably into the pocket! Carry is above average. Urethane(Natural) and plastic(XXXL) were becoming my ONLY option. It looks like the Gemstone may have given me a controllable reactive look back!
One house in particular, I have been standing on 34 setting the ball on 27 to have any chance of getting to the pocket. Getting the corners out from there at my speed has been 50-50%. I will report back on how it does there. But for now, the Gemstone has given me a look back that I wasn't sure I would ever have again!
