This is a great ball.  It gets through the heads real easy and then hits like a truck.  I have the ball drilled pin in ring finger with the CG kicked out 2 inches.  When the ball gets into its roll, it makes a nice smooth arc to the pocket and trashes it.  The ball flares like a monster the way I have it drilled.  It works well on a medium-slightly heavy to medium.

This is definately one of my favorites.  Real nice transition and smooth movement.

Info:
PAP 5" over and 1/4" up
Speed: 15-16mph (Very versitile)
Revs: Versitile (Low to high)

PreDrill Specs:
14lbs. 3oz.
3" pin 2.9oz top

Drilling:
Pin under Ring CG Out with Bomb at 11 o'clock and 5 o'clock. X-Hole near thumb quadrant. (See Pic Link)

http://s93.photobucket.com/albums/l49/BuzzsawDemons/Lane%201%20Arsenal/?action=view¤t=Lane1Arsenal009.jpg

Ending Specs:
1/2 oz side
1/2 oz finger

Surface: Box Finish

Lanes: ProAnvil Synthetics

Pattern: 35' top hat buffed to 40' Medium Units. (THS)

1st Shift: Standing 25 and using normal release with med revs, targeting 17 at the arrows and breakpoint of 6 off of the top hat, this ball is very smooth and readable. Carry is above average and it keeps the pins very low but active. As set progresses, normal moves are generally easy and readable as this ball doesn't just jump off the dry. Haven't found the carrydown to effect this ball much.

2nd shift: Standing 35 and targeting 23 at the arrows and 10 at the breakpoint, this ball was simple to move deeper than the first set with the same rellease and ball speed/revs. Still continued to be very readable off of the top hat and deeper moves through set progression still showed the ball to recover well and continue to store enough energy to drive through the pin deck. Carrydown still didn't effect the ball even though deeper angles.

Likes: This ball is great for lane readability and can handle Medium to medium Heavy conditions. Carrydown not much of an issue regardless of line on THS units of oil. Carry is great.

Dislikes: None at this time

Rating: 9

Comments: Perfect ball for it's meant condition. Have thrown this ball about 20 games to date. Ball needs head oil and midlane to get to the breakpoint in out of box condition. Will always be the 1st ball out of my bag at tournaments.

Ok....here we go.

I layed this ball out pin up and slightly outside w/ no x-hole.  Box finish.

I liked the way this ball allowed me to get inside (23-6) and open up the lane.  Set up for a hard, yet smooth arc and it did exactly that.  Ball made the breakpoint with plenty of pop left.  9 out of 10

right handed
speed 16-17 mph
375-400 rev
2-3 pin
2.8 oz top

drilled 5 x 4.5, pin almost centered below and between fingers...75 degrees...

THS..ball in very versatile, first game i was still playing around with thumbhole and shot 196..after i got it right shot 225, 236..this was fresh shot...kept moving around seeing what the ball could do..second set i really concentrated..played 16 to 10 with a little tilt, shot 244..ball just destroys the pins..second game i moved further right played 10-5..up the back of the ball and firm..shot 255...third game moved in played 21-10, shot 267..ball was under control all night, had to throw it really bad to throw it through the break point or leave something crazy...

compared to polished super carbide bomb(drilled similar to solid cobalt but at 60 degrees)...i got a similar look, carbide rolls a little stronger and earlier but solid cobalt isn't far behind...solid cobalt has more pop on the back...about 4-5 boards more hook...overall a great ball..

tsunami(4.5x4 pin down 75 degrees) is longer and a little less pop in back than solid cobalt..

tsunami is my fav ball in my bag but i can see ths solid cobalt taking its place soon...

my tsunami is my favorite ball in my bag, but i can see this ball taking its place soon..

I drilled this one the same as my pearl cobalt bomb, 4 1/2 x 3 3/8 with the pin 2 3/4 up from my mid line. Weight hole on the pap to bring back to 1/2 oz positive.

I wanted this ball to give me the same look on fresh oil, as my Pearl Cobalt gives me on broke down patterns, and it does. This ball reads the mid lane and drives through the pocket the same as the Pearl Cobalt, only it does it in more oil.

This ball seems to carry everything and the only reason I put it down is because it lets you know right away when the lanes are getting too dry for it. It starts hooking noticeably early, but still manages to mellow out on the back end and hit pocket, then it is time to put it down and bring out the pearl.

Thanks to these two balls I have been able to bring most of my equipment home, where I used to have 5 balls now I only need two.

Intro/Stats:

All my stats are in my profile.  A picture of this ball is in my signature.  Standard leverage/max hook drill.  This ball isn't impressive at all.  When I use this ball I keep hearing in my head that song from the website "Lane 1 baby, Lane 1".  Well, this will most likely end up being my 1st and last Lane#1 ball I ever buy.  I am glad I got it nearly new for only $75.

Summary:

I can compare this ball to several of my other bowling balls and I would put it near the bottom in reaction, consistency, and power when it hits the pocket.  Yeah, the ball hooks good (sometimes), but the ball just seems weak when it gets to the pocket compared to a Black Widow.  I use the Black Widow because both balls are generally supposed to be good for the same conditions (Med to Light Heavy).  I saw nothing special at all with the Cobalt Bomb Solid.  It leaves a lot of corner pins.  It doesn't seem to hook strong in the pocket consistently.  It just seems like an overrated and overpriced ball retail from Lane#1.

The only thing good about this ball purchase is that I didn't pay retail for it.

Overall Ratings:

Hook: 6
Consistency: 4
Power/Energy To Pins: 1
Overall: 3

Conclusion:

1st and last Lane#1 ball I ever buy.
