Thanks to Rich and Chuck at Lane #1 for sending out the test ball.

The layout I used was the same I had in my SuperNova...pin 4 1/2" from my PAP and MB 4 3/4" from my PAP.  With the "Dual Angle" layout method, this equates to 60 degrees by 40 degrees, with the pin 4 1/2" from my axis.

I tried this one out heavy volume house shot and the PBA's Cheetah pattern, and compared it side-by-side to the SuperNova.

On the house shot I was able utilize the margin for error that the lane gave me.  Shots missed to the inside did not dive through the face and shots that were wide made a smooth move off the burn.  The XP was extremely clean through the heads and made a smooth arc to the pocket.  I had to play a little further right than I was expecting, but that is not a bad thing.  It played about 10 boards right with my feet when compared to my SuperNova, with a very similar ball move.

The Cheetah pattern showed more of a difference.  I was 13 boards right with my feet and utilizing a breakpoint 3 boards further right compared to the SuperNova.  On the Cheetah the XP had a cleaner move through the midlane and allowed me to utilize the area of the lane which yields the highest scores, without suffering from over/under.  I was very pleased with my ball reaction on this pattern.

The SuperNova XP offers Sawheads something that the Lane #1 lineup is missing...a reliable ball for lighter oil conditions.  Lane #1 now has a great 4 ball arsenal with the G-Force for heavier volumes, SuperNova for slightly lesser volumes, the G-Force Evolution for medium to lighter oil, and the SuperNova XP for light oil conditions.

Got one and drilled one up today thanks to the Lane #1 Staff

The SuperNova XP cleared the heads and got down the lane with ease. Once it hit its break point it had a strong arc back to the pocket. Light hits carried all night.

The shot was a typical house shot with a dry wall on the outside. The oil volume was medium and the backends had not been stripped. I would really like to see now what it does on clean backend. Once I throw it on a fresh shot with clean backends I will update.

I was excited to see the reaction I got. I could use this ball on a variety of shots with hand position changes. This is an excellent addition to the Current line and will be a MUST have!

Ball was drilled w/ 5" pin, the MB was kicked right of the thumb 4" from PAP. The pin raised above the bridge. 3/4 X-Hole on the PAP about 2 3/4" deep.

My stats:
Right Handed
Medium Speed
Rev Rate is medium.
I have a high axis of rotation.

ok been throwing this ball for a little over a week and I guess a formal review would be necessary

ball:
15# 3oz 2-3 pin and 4.5 top prior to drilling
drilled pin in ring, mb right of thumb resulting in a pin to pap of 4.5 with mb at 50*, ending weightst 1/2 positive side, 1/4 thumb.  took fingers and thumb extra deep to get the top out of it

house #1 old wood supposedly 100 units of oil in the middle soft backends, first set out of the box the ball struggled, but it wasnt the ball, as the lanes had no where near the oil we were told, ball was just burning up and doing it in a hurry.
house #2 synthetics, aobut 41 ft house shot, was told the lanes were ran twice prior to us, ball showed a great reaction to the dry here, easy push outside, strong recovery, go 224-147-300 (lost in the second game, couldnt hit the broad side of a barn)  300 was my first ever, ball was money all game, it should have been the second but i had my head up my arse
house #3 wood lanes, 36 feet buffed to 38 big backends, ball was even better on this shot, playing 3rd and 4th arrow all night, had space, had recovery and had hit, 215-232-257 704
house #4 new house with synthetics, heavier shot, soft backs (unusual for this house) starting my normal feet on 30 cross 18 to the 8 no recovery unless i fluffed the ball speed wise, finally decided to move way right piped the ball up ten at 18.5 mph shoot 201-232-245 678, ball really showed some versitiltiy

all in all one of the best balls i have seen from lane #1 in a long long time, killer good looks, revs hard, hits even harder, a masterful creation for league shots, this along with the solid version gives league bowlers everywhere a fantastic 1-2 punch, probably as great of a combo as i have seen from any company

First off, this ball is money$$$$$$$.

I cannot remember the last time I had a ball that I could use the whole night.  I don't even use my spare ball right now.  I could come to league with a one ball bag and play the whole night and score.  I have increased my average 7 pins since I got this ball.  I have yet to shoot less than mid 6 with this ball.

I have the ball drilled with pin in ring finger and cg kicked back toward grip center.  Ball is still in OOB finish.

The ball gets through the heads real easy, slides right through.  Catches up real quick in the midlane and makes a real defined move to the pocket, more arc that angle.  On fresh, I stand 28 and throw across 12 at the arrows.  I have a ton of room with this ball.  If I tug it a little bit it will hold.  If I let it fly a little it comes back screaming.

As the oil moves I may move 2 boards with my feet, but move my target in to 15 or so.  This slight adjustment makes all the difference in the world.  I am right back in the pocket as if it was the first frame of the night again.

This is the first ball that I have drilled with the cg kicked back to grip center.  I usually kick the cg out.

Thanks to Chuck at Lane#1 for taking the time to lay out this drill pattern for me.

This ball is remarkable.  I got it drilled on a Saturday night.  Then I bowled an ABT tournament Sunday the next day and won the tournament for a quick $900.00 payout.  PLEASE get this ball if you want a ball to perform for all types of conditions ranging from medium to oily and this ball can be used for all 3 games.

Check out New World Venture Pro Shop in Laurel, MD for Lane #1 Bowling Equipment.

Thank you,

I drilled this ball with the Pin over my bridge and the CG out.
After some thought I decided it would be best to leave this ball with the Out of the box finish.

This ball does not hook to much, It gets down the lane nicely and then makes a nice strong turn towards the pocket. The Supernova XP sends the pins back into the machine with ease. It hits them hard and keeps them low.

This ball is perfect for Medium Oil, or when the lanes breakdown and the BuzzBomb/SuperNova is hooking to much.

I feel the Supernova XP does itself most justice on Tournament Patterns, I feel this ball gives the bowler area on a Tournament Shot that the lane man doesnt want the bowler to have!!

The ball: 15 pounds, 2.5-inch pin, 3.8 oz. starting top weight.
The drill: "Label" off the Lane #1 drill sheet. Pin ended up just over the ring at 1 o'clock. CG just under and to the right of the middle finger. MB marker is on the track side of the thumb about a half-inch out. No weight hole. Surface is box plus a light coating of Storm ReactaShine (about to add more of it soon...see review for details).
Me: PAP 4 over 3/8 up, tweener revs, good speed, good circumference coverage.

---

Got this ball with the intention of making it my go-to ball for league this year. I've been using a Lane #1 Tsunami H20, and as my home house has begun to decrease the overall oil volume lately, the H20 gets a little overwhelmed by the dry later in the set.

I wanted to try the XP, as my usual second option, a Lane #1 G-Force Evolution, was too condition-specific and oil-allergic. I figured the XP would fit somewhere in between.

I was expecting the ball to be polished when it arrived, but it was not. It carried a matte finish of about 1000 Abralon grit. Polish was going to be needed, so I applied a light coat of Storm ReactaShine -- a VERY light coat. I kept the drill pattern to a simple label drill so as to fit the ball into my regular arsenal and hopefully avoid any surprises.

First testing was in practice on an old league shot that had had open traffic for a couple of hours. The ball was way too strong in the midlane for this condition. I had to move much deeper than I was comfortable in order to get the ball not to leave designer splits.

Second testing was in league on the fresh. I immediately saw that this ball was not going to give me the results I had bought it for.

This is, quite simply, the most angular Lane #1 ball I've ever thrown, and there is no close second. It's the second-most angular ball I've thrown in the past year behind Storm's Dark Thunder Pearl.

The backend on this ball is what sets it apart from the other Lane #1 offerings. I don't know whether this is a function of new resins from the 900Global camp, or whether it has to do with the new Fusion core -- or whether it was my polishing the ball that did it. Whatever the reason, this ball is very angular up front and very strong in the mids and especially the backends.

Overall, it handles about the same amount of oil as the Tsunami. It just goes about its business in a much different way.

The breakpoint, however, is sometimes out of control with this ball, unlike my Tsunami. I suppose that's a function of pearl vs. solid.

In the end, I've decided to remove this ball from my regular arsenal until I can get a better handle on its properties in practice. I feel it would probably be more controllable without the polish, but without the polish, too much like my Tsunami.

Positives: Can recover from anywhere, good carry, superb looks if you care about that.

Negatives: Breakpoint craziness, lots of designer splits, a little oil allergic when playing in the heavier-volume parts of the lane.

Overall: A good option for mediums and up, and in the hands of bowlers who can control a breakpoint at will. For those people, this ball will be a beast.
