Title: 14# Balls
Post by: Brickguy221 on June 21, 2006, 02:11:46 AM
Do the 14# balls in the Lane 1 line-up of balls work as well without any loss of performance vs their 15-16 lb. balls? For example, in the Track line-up of balls, I have both a 14# & 15# Havoc and I have no loss of power/carry what so ever in the 14# vs the 15# ball. I have also experienced this same success in the past in both the Brunswick and Storm line-up  of balls, but it has recently been pointed out by others that this may not be the case with Legends/Lanemaster balls because they reduce their ball weight by reducing the weight of their cores.

So to answer my question, do Lane 1 balls carry as well in 14# as they do in 15#-16#?

There should be no noticable diff, all 3 would be similar depending on the drill pattern.

The core/weight block is the engine of the bowling ball. The heavier/denser it is, the more power/effect it will have in the ball. =:^D

actually some of the lighter weight balls are better when they use the same core as the heavier balls - Lane #1 tags this as "increased dynamics"

Speaking from experience having possessed both 14 and 15lb Lane 1 equipment of the same with the same drillings at the same time in the past, I can honestly say "No" I still throw 14lb. equipment now.

lane #1 uses the exact same core in its 14lb balls as it does in its 15lb balls.  there should be ZERO loss of power.

That may be their experience, but for the majority of bowlers, that isn't true.  The additional speed and hand most people would get with 14# can make up for the additional deflection you might get playing a straight game.  I threw 14# for a long time and when I switched from 14# to 15# this year, I didn't notice any significant difference in carry.  My switch was mostly for convenience, as 15# stuff outnumbers 14# ten to one.
