Bomb Cores
« on: November 16, 2005, 12:39:25 PM »
I've read in this forum at times that the cores in the DB & HDB don't match up to a lot of people and that those people prefer other Lane 1 cores over the cores in these two balls. Can someone tell me what the problem is with the Cores in these two balls causing some people not to like them? Besides the Tsunami, I've been looking at the DB & HDB for myself and I don't want to get off on the wrong foot with Lane 1. Which ever ball I might choose in the not too far off future, I want to be able to come back to this Forum and report something positive.

i have thrown both and i like the reaction i get from each. i think the problem people run into with these balls is when they drill them trying to get a reaction that is just not compatible. both balls were designed to go long and hook hard on the bak...when you put a really strong/early layout on the ball it kinda defeats the purpose the ball was designed to meet. i think it is better to just go /w a pretty standard/stock pattern...label has worked very well for me on bomb cores.

I think it is a coverstock issue .. I have no problems with the boms I have, actually the black cherry bomb is my favorite, but I couldn't get the Hybrid Dirty Bomb to work with me.  I believe it is the PK18 coverstock not matching well with my style/game.  I am getting the dirty bomb since it doesn't have the PK18 coverstock and I am pretty sure it will work just fine with my game.

I'd go along with the above and it's more a cover/core combo that's the problem. I have the Cherry Bomb, Black Cherry, and HDB, and all work for me. I've had the Blueberry, that worked. I had the Nugget, and that didn't work. While the core was slightly different than the Blueberry, it was similay in shape. Whether it was the core/cover I am not sure of, or if it was the drill pattern on it. A good way for me to find that out would have been to either re-drill it, or try a cranberry.

I think in most cases, not just Lane 1, it's usually the core/cover combo that is the problem.

I drilled the cherry with my favorite drill, long and strong. That is was for a few games, then it dulled down a bit, so i had sometimes long and Always strong, so I shined it, for 3 games it was good, then same again, so on and so on untill I got irritated and sold it. To me thats the cover, but these balls are all jumpy by nature, if you aren't prepared to put that ball away when conditions change then don't buy a bomb ball period.  I honestly think they are a situational wonder, my first game out of the box, 288 with me choking, after that I hit a 276, 279, and a couple other good ones, but all were on a fresh shot, anything with carry down or drying fronts, the reving core got it going to quick or it was uncontrolable at the break. For me I would never buy another because of that real condition specific reactions. O and I should mention the same issues with the BCB for me too. So I guess if you want to play its safe just stay away, but its like the x-factors or any asymetrical ball, if you match then look out, if not, go home.
