Hi!

I've read somewhere at the forum that Lane 1 diamond core (Uranium, XXXL)does NOT react well with stacked leverage drilling, any truth in this?

What about 'modified' diamond cores like the ones with Golden Nugget (Mini Diamond Within Patented Diamond), Dirty Bomb (Diamond with High Density Flip Block and Mini Diamond Nugget) etc, any 'common known problems' with stacked leverage drilling?

I would think stacked leverage would go against what most lane 1 cores were meant for, early roll with a lot of midlane reaction. Not many people like stacked leverage drillings in the first place though.

Same here. I use stacked layouts for a milder reaction on the backend. I have best results with the 4x3 or 5x3 types of layouts. I usually keep the pin below the fingers and have the CG kicked out between the thumb and my VAL. Depending on what reaction I want.

No need to ask, I'll offer my opinion right now :-)

I have had a few Lane 1 balls with stacked drills and what I can say is that for people with average speed and hand, a stacked drill on a dull surfaced ball will burn out and die.

Now if you have high ball speed it's a different story. Or also if you have a lot of hand, it'll work out for you.

I have had success with 4x4 drills on the Emerald, Blueberry and on a SOlid Uranium (I polished it up really hard). I am also going to try it with a DIrty Bomb I have here and see.

Stacked drills just seem to over-exaggerate the roll of teh Lane 1 core and as a result the balls over hook early and die out.

Just my experience.

Because what he has described is exactly how Mike Savoia had his Golden Nugget drilled, as shown on the Lane1 website (video section).

I just got a Golden Nugget, and I'm having it drilled this Thursday, the only thing that I'm afraid of having it drilled stacked, is that the possibility of it burning up too early, and roll out at the backend (as swishing8-10 mentioned), so I think what Spinnernot mentioned might work.

The Golden Nugget is my first Lane1 ball (also just bought an XXXL), I was gonna get a Uranium preal, but the only one in 14lb my pro shop can get hold of here in the United Kingdom, has an 1.5 inch pin placement, and I never had any success with short pin placement........... The next Lane1 shipping to the UK is not due till late January 2005, oh the agony...

Boy my Golden Nugget sure is ugly!!! Yet I'm so excited about getting my first Lane1 ball.... I think I need help...

What has been said by the others makes complete sense.

My Dirty Bomb is drilled just as you describe and it does exactly what you suggest. It has a strong predictable roll and is arcy at the breakpoint.

I think you will be very pleased with that drill pattern on the Nugget. Mine was drilled 4x3 and it was very strong. IT was too strong in fact. I got good length but the backend was too much for my liking.

PAP 5 3/8 & 7/8 up

Just did this drilling on a Super Carbide Bomb. I understand this to be a modified leverage with the weight hole meant to mellow the backend. The ball does get into a strong roll earlier, but certainly hasn't rolled out yet. Ball flares decent at backend. I've left two sevens out of nine games (!) which, until recently, was a problem.

Throwing three diff houses and even the dryer house was best attacked with this ball and drilling. On the floods, a scuffed surface was the answer.

my wife is going to have a solid uranium with 1 - 2 pin, I think the ball has around 2oz top, she is a average speed and rev female player, is pin under ring with stacked is a good drilling layout option for med oil lane ? any suggestion ?

1. more length and more hook/continuation thru the pin deck.

2. earlier movement, more defined/sharper breakpoint off the dry.

3. earliest movement with a smoother arc off the dry, more of a hook set.

As far as stacked leverage goes, lane #1 cores are strong and may give you some over/under. If you're going to stack the core, try using between a 4-5" pin to PAP stack, instead of a 3 3/8" max leverage stack.

Also, the higher differential Lane #1 cores are better for stacking than the cores .035 and under.

Here are my thoughts compared to Frankie May's "Bowl IN Control" video...

You are dealing with his 3 basic drillings here.

1. Label drills on Lane 1 balls give length and a strong backend which contradicts what Frankie says should be an "arcing motion" drilling.

2. Stacked leverage agrees with what Frankie calls his "rev up and flip" drilling. When maxing out a drill pattern as such an over/under can result as the core is such a strong position there is a big change in reaction if your release is not consistent.

3. 10:30 drill...this is Frankie's drilling for heavy forward roll and is best for the fresh lane condition. Designed to take advantage of the fresh backend of the lane and not cause an overreaction.

I tend to favor cg out drills on Lane 1 stuff. Label seems to work well for the guys with the speed and rev rate, stacked works pretty good for the strokers but the cg out (10:30 drills) seem to work well for the average guys.
