Knowledgeable Sawheads please reply
« on: February 05, 2006, 11:59:06 PM »
Was thinking the other day how much I would like to have another 15# Comet Pro.  Really liked the look I had before, but don't think $350+ is going to happen in this lifetime.  Single drill would work.  So I got to looking a bit to see if Lane#1 had anything comparable.  Only core I see close is the Bullet.  I feel pretty sure I can dull down the pearl enough, but the Bullett actually has an "inverted" CPro core.  My question is this:  Is it possible or feasible to flip the ball to "Re-invert" that core and not have it roll like junk?  I am sure it is a stupid question, but I figure if anyone knew the answer, it would be one of you guys.  Thx in advance for your help and for keeping the potshots to a minimum.

You could also try to find the original Viper (solid), or the Pearl Viper.  Those should have the same or similar core to the CPro.  I had the Solid Viper, unfortunately it is cracked in half, I just picked up a Pearl Viper and can't wait to get it back from my driller to see how it works.

As far as flipping the core upside down, I would think that you would get into trouble with static weights unless you had a really low top weight ball.  The other issue would be "new" pin distance by flipping the core upside down.  Based on geometry, the exact bottom of the core is 13.5" from the pin.  Unless you had a 7" plus pin out ball (blem), inverting the core would leave you with a 7" plus pin to cg distance...  A long pin such as that would severly limit, if not totally inhibit, any type of reasonable layout...and again, you may be in trouble with static weights unless you had a very low TW to start out with...  This might be a good question for the Lane#1 customer service dept.. I would be interested in hearing their answer to the subject...  I would suspect they direct you towards a bullet as its the closest ball in their current line-up.

If you're looking for a new 16 lb Viper, I've scheduled mine to go on eBay next Saturday at 5:30pm Pacific.
