I got my Cranberry!!!! Now what.......
« on: September 12, 2003, 09:44:56 PM »
I'm very excited to have the new Cranberry in my possession. I'll be getting it drilled Tuesday and I'm looking for suggestions. From what I've read about the Blueberry this coverstock is very versatile. What I'm thinking about doing is getting it drilled label (Length 8, backend 9 according to Lane #1) and then dulling the surface to make the ball work better in med. heavy oil conditions. I throw 17-18 on Qubica with medium revs, my track and flare rings begin about an inch outside the thumb hole. Will this work on these conditions? What grit should I take the ball down to? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

T-God.....I've got a Cherry Bomb drilled Label "high pin" that goes long and snaps VERY hard, unfortunately on heavier oil it's not effective. I've got an Icon300 that is drilled to have minimal length and a nice arc, it works well in a flood, stays in the bag otherwise. If possible, and that's what I'm trying to accomplish with this drill/coverstock adjustment, I'd like the Cranberry to handle what the Cherry Bomb can't as far as carrydown. Maybe this ball can't do that, but I was thinking that with this drill and surface dulling, maybe it could. Whaddya think?

The Cranberry should fit right in between. I would go with a 4 3/4 x 3 3/8 pin near ring finger. The CG out layout will give you better midlane roll which is necessary for carrydown, and you'll get more length than the Icon with this ball.

If the ball isn't quite cutting it on the backend, dull the surface slightly like you said. =:^D

T-God....The drilling that you're talking about seems to match what Lane #1 lists as CG Leverage. Is that correct? Also, to what grit would you recommend dulling the ball?

Yes, it is like their CG out leverage drilling.

I would try it first out of the box. Then if you need to, lightly go over it with a scotchbrite pad, just enough to crack the surface. If you need to take it down more after that, you can by wetsanding it with 600 grit. It's better to go little by little, 1 step at a time. =:^D

T, i got a ? I was fortunate enough to pick up a 2nd blueberry used. I'm getting it drilled axis as an experiment. How does an axis drilling roll, and do you think it would suit me? I'm a lefty, medium speed, high tracking, revs are medium, suggestions? Thanks, lefty.

It depends on how far out the pin is. A 1-2" pin will roll long and be smooth. If the pin is out 3-4", it will roll heavy and be strong throughout the whole lane. The farther out the pin, the more the ball will hook, and snap on the backend. =:^D
