I have the Solid and No, I can't play the line you described with out going way left of the head pin. I have 8 games on mine and it is drilled Pin almost under bridge and CG out........... 4.5 x 3.75. I play straight up 10.....up 10 and out to 6-7.....and discovered this week I can play up 13-15 out to 8.......never been able to throw a ball on that line before.

with proper hand position yes they can be played up the 5 board, or 4 board or 3 board, it just takes confidence in your game and the proper release

I am suprised at the number of bowlers that try to force a line by grabbing a different ball. C'mon guys. There is much more to this game than the ball. You need to play the lanes. Take what you are given (oil pattern) and ADJUST to it. Yes, it helps to have the right ball in your hands. However, if it is bone dry on the outside, you should not play there with ANY ball. Even plastic will jump if there is NO oil out there. Change your line. Change your release. There is a reason you see the pros playing all over the lane. If the shot is straight up the ditch, fine. Go up the back of the ball and point it up. If the shot moves inside, you need to slow down, move in, and rev it up.

Bottom line. Don't force a shot that isn't there. You can play any ball anywhere on the lane, but carry will be an issue if you are not playing the lanes. In anwser to the question presented in this topic...yes, I can play the Cobalts up the outside.
