Title: A conversation with a Lane#1 loyalist
Post by: bamaster on July 06, 2005, 02:41:29 AM
It wasn't very long ago I was in my local pro shop and I had this conversation with a Lane#1 loyalist:

OldGuy: Them Lane#1 balls have the best core in the industry.
Me: Yeah, some people really like them.
OldGuy: No, it's better.  It's patented, you know.
Me: All manufacturers patent their cores, I think.
OldGuy: It's something about that diamond shape that makes it better.
Me: But like all manufacturers they change their cores all the time. If it was so superior, why change it?
OldGuy: And their coverstocks are better.

That's not word for word, but basically it. At this point in the conversation I left.  Nothing I could say would matter. I didn't press the issue because he appeared to be sold on an idea and that's hard to argue.

I certaily do not want to start a flame thread, nothing comes from that. Do I believe in their products?  I've never thrown a Buzzsaw so I can't say.  But it's hard to give a product credibility after having a conversation like this.  Just thought I'd share.

Well, a conversation with an idiot is hardly something to hang your hat on. I've had similar talks with fanboys of Big B, Columbia, Mo, etc. Don't judge the whole clan by the words of one guy.

As for saws, I don't currently have any, but I've used quite a few. I found most of them to be very, very, good. Are they worth extra $$? To me, it's always about personal choice. Some people like the look so much that they are willing to spend a bit more. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Do what you want to do, buy what you want to buy, and just let everyone else do the same. That's my take on it.

gotta love the general public....love it when i see people ask for "something that hooks" without any other information.  Its like asking at a restaurant, "whats good?" without giving any other info like what type of food on the menu.

my idiot alarm always goes off when i hear that.
