Agent Orange....
« on: February 09, 2009, 11:30:01 AM »
So I bought an Agent Orange off of eBay for $80 shipped (used) and I got the thumb plugged, a new slug and new finger grips for $20.  $100 total for a pretty much brand new Lane 1.

I bought this ball because I had heard that the state tournament there was a lot of oil on the lanes, and you needed something that hooked early.  The seller told me he had it at 1000 grit abralon, and I figured for a player like myself that would be perfect.

I picked it up Sunday and used it tonight for the first time in league.  I figured this ball would be hooking for days, but sadly it doesn't.

I was able to play 17 with my feet (I line up with my left foot and I'm lefty) and play direct up the 10 board all night.  So basically I was really straight.  The ball got down the lane super easy, and had a pretty small break on the back end.

While I think this will be my new go to ball on THS, I don't think, if the lanes are like everyone is saying, it will work for me at states.

Has anyone noticed that this ball is a good one to play straight with, but not a hooking monster?

I'm not disappointed in the ball, just a little disappointed that it might not work for what I wanted it to.

I find it very odd that you don't know your own PAP or haven't felt a desire to learn it, given that is the ONLY way to properly drill 95% of the balls around these days.

What do you do with the other 5%, throw three holes in them, say two hail mary's, and hope it works?  I'm no genius, but knowing your PAP is needed to properly drill 100% of the bowling balls out there these days.  Of course, I will probably chastised by the ballreviews community because I am questioning a post by the great charlest.

Sleepy,

I honestly wonder what is wrong with you. Not in questioning what I said. Many people do that. I know I am not right all the time. It just the way in which you word your responses that ... aggravates the living crap out of every one, including me. Is there some reason you always want to pick a fight over the least little thing? Why must you always be so antagonistic?

Is there any reason you can't have a civil discussion? You obviously do not want one. Every word you type seems designed to provoke an emotional response, not a rational discussion. That is not the purpose of this web site.

Charlest I definitely do desire to know what my PAP is, but none of the drillers I have ever gone to have done it.

I've always been about the feel of a ball.  If a person could drill my equipment consistently with the same feel, then I am happy.  To me that's much more important than a lay out being an inch or two off from whatever my PAP is.

Like you said, I would fall into the average numbers as my first oil ring is very close to the fingers and thumb.  In fact sometimes I think it's TOO close.

This ball really rolls well, and if it doesn't work at states, that's not a huge deal, I'll just throw something else.  My Hy-Road at 4000 checks up earlier, so that might be my weapon of choice.

I like the way the AO rolls, how it looks, and how it feels.  I could see myself putting up some big numbers with it once I find the right line to carry more consistently.  Right now I can't miss the pocket, but strike percentage isn't as high as I would like it.  6 games 1330 pins low game of 204.

If they did not find your PAP you should find a new shop operator. It is the single most important thing you use to lay out a ball. Other than that you are just guessing.

I refuse to get a new driller because every ball I use fits perfectly.  It's hard enough to find someone that can drill well.  Like I said, I don't think it would make enough of a difference on ball reaction if the drill is not EXACTLY 3 3/8" from my PAP.

Think what you want as I have helped 100's of people in this sport. What have you done??

Not Much!!!

This is the last reply I will be making to you and your worthless posts. You have no place in this industry so your antagonizing comments have no merit. The fact that Lane#1 decided to not have a booth this year in Vegas does not affect my life in any way. I have a successful Pro Shop and also several other businesses that do quite well for me. So in the future you should try to think of something a little more relevant to try to hurt my feelings...

Later loser!!!

Okay guys well this post definitely took a turn for the worse.  I just wanted to update a tad

Today I went and threw some practice at the bowling alley that the city tournament team event will be taking place.

Longer pattern, seems to be more head oil, more out of bounds around the channel.

I shot a 297 with the Agent Orange  I told my buddy after #11 I should throw it in the gutter, because I have 3 300's and 2 have come in practice, and it means nothing, so I didn't really care to throw another.

Then as I got ready for the shot I noticed some people watching in anticipation, so I decided to try, and got it left off my hand, where as I mentioned earlier, not much recovery room, and it came back way light.

The ball hooked harder at this house if that makes sense.  Not more, just harder off the spot.  I was playing the same line as I do at the other house where I've put up a couple of consistent 660 sets.

While a 297 in practice means absolutely nothing, I was happy to see that my prediction after throwing it a few times was correct.  The ball rolls well and allows me to play in a nice comfort area.  What I noticed today in practice, which I never seem to notice in league, is a forcing issue.  When I let the ball come off my hand, I strike.  When I force it off my hand I leave 7 pins.

So, now I'll be excited to see how this reacts at states, and if it doesn't perform well, that's okay, because I think I have a winner for leagues.

More good news!  Last night after the first practice session and 297, I went to the house where the singles and doubles are being held and shot a 279 with the AO.

This ball is pretty darn good

I'd like to personally thank Lane #1 for making the awesome Agent Orange!

Today in singles and doubles in the city tournament I went 257, 258, 268 -783 in doubles and 233, 237, 206 - 676 in singles after shooting 772 with my Hy-Road in Team for an all events total of 2231 scratch!

Sadly I was only getting about 5 pins and event, so 15 total for a 2246 w/handicap all events total.  I have no chance at winning the handicap, but hopefully I can cash!

The only problem I see with this ball is TOO MANY STONE 9 PINS!!!!  I left 5 total today and the first game in doubles I was shooting for a 268 and stoned a 9 2nd ball in the 10th!!!  Yes I am a lefty!  GRRR I should have been going for an 800 in the 3rd game, but got JACKED UP!!!

I have had this ball for 1 week and 1 day and so far 297, 279, and a 783 which is my 2nd highest set ever!  WHAT A BALL!!!!

Thanks again LANE #1!!!

Hey guys I really appreciate it!  I don't mean to post such a FIGJAM because I realize I am not a good bowler on anything other than a house shot.  So please to those who want to bash me, don't.

I mean I feel I'll cash in the handicap spot, and yes they did have an optional scratch event, but no one effing told me!  So I didn't get in!

I can still be named all events scratch champion, I just can't get the cash for it  I know this sounds lame, but the trophy means more to me than the money, (it's a pride thing) so I hope it holds up!!!

The only bonus I can take from it, is that not many people got in the scratch all events, so I won't be losing TOO much money if I do indeed take the title!  I really am hoping that 2231 will be enough.  However there are still more squads to be bowled, so you never know!

Again, guys I really appreciate the sentiments.  Again to those who love to call out FIGJAMMERS I apologize, but I am honestly very excited right now and again hope it will hold up!

It's really sad because I shot 289 in team and won $32 and won two jackpots with a 257,268 in doubles and won $13.50!  No one even gets in jackpots...so sad!

Again thanks Lane #1!!!

Well, I just picked up my AO from 42swaff... Wow. I didn't bother to redrill it as I had bought into what people said about Lane1 (overpriced mediocre balls).. man was I wrong. On a fresh ths shot, with the ball @ 2000 with polish, this thing handled oil very well. So well that I am going to adjust the span, and it looks like my dad may be buying into the Lane1 brand as well. This ball corners well, and has a very very consistent roll. Averaged 200+ with a ball that was so off I had 6 pieces of tape in the thumb, isn't bad at all. Definately a keeper!
