Which lane 1 ball
« on: December 23, 2009, 11:28:23 PM »
With all the hype I have been reading on the red and blue deaths
I figured I would like to give lane 1 a try.  My question is, I have a cell
pearl and a mega friction and would like something in between the two.  Would
one of these 2 balls fit the bill.  I currently bowl on wood.  The cell pearl
just wont turn the corner but theres not enough oil for the mega.  Any suggestions?

Thanks

Bill

Let me add my 2 cents Bill.

When I received my Red Death my rep warned me that the ball was going to hook. So I laid it out weak (6x5 or 50x6x50 for you Dual Angle folks, pin over middle) so I could attempt to use it on our regular house pattern. Well, that was a total bust. The ball was very sensitive to release, speed and lane variations.

What I would suggest is that you choose which ball to buy based on the back 1/2 of the lane. If you tend to see carrydown, then the Red Death with a 2000 or 4000 surface (or lower grit with light polish) will work best. If your backends tend to stay pretty clean and crisp then I would suggest you go with the Blue Death drilled something like 5x4 (pin up or down is your choice).

What I can say about my Blue Death is that even with the pin under bridge and cg out (5-1/4 x 4 or 35 x 5-1/4 x 75) the ball gets great length, still reads the middle and will absolutely explode off the corner all while retaining a strong continuation through the pins.

Best of Luck....

Good description Doug.  I have a Blue Death http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q29/scotts33/Lane1BlueDeathlabel.jpg drilled 70x5x45 for me.  Exactly the ball motion and reaction in OOB that Doug describes.

I don't have a Red Death..... yet.

Ahhh Scott...That Pin and CG position is my favorite layout on most balls except that my Pin is about 1/4" to the right of where yours is. I never measured the angles, just laid them out like that.
