Title: Another plunge into L#1
Post by: OddBalls on February 01, 2010, 03:58:40 AM
This time it's a Dirty Bomb (not the Hybrid)..

Looks to be an pearl Activator cover with a Bomb Core and denisty nugget inside. All apperances makes this look like a real angular piece.

Picked  this up for $45 shipped with te fingers plugged.

Any body throw his ball lately??

What's the likes and dislikes about it?

You've pegged the pearl DB fairly well. Mine was one of the bigger skid/flip balls I've owned.

I can't think of any real dislikes, other than I'm not a fan of big skid/flip pieces. It was more me not matching up to the ball than any real shortcomings in the ball itself. It was fun to throw on a fresh THS (great recovery), but I couldn't get a consistent reaction on spottier second shift conditions.

If you like skid/flip, you should enjoy this piece.

Worst of the Lane #1 balls I've tried. Wasn't strong as advertised, inconsistent, hit flat too much of the time. The HDB was the same way until I severely edited the surface.

I managed to make it work as a dry-lane ball towards the end, but there are better options for that application.

For $45, probably a good deal just as an experiment, but I'd treat it as such and not expect too much. Given that you're dealing with a cover that was literally two companies ago, it will bear very little resemblance to what Lane #1 is today.

The Activator cover on this drew me to it..

Loved it on my ZC and Inferno. Was a POS on the Uranium.

Seems that the core makes or breaks it for me with this cover.

Just need to redill the fingers and re-slung the thumb and we should be good to go..

i liked the DB although for me the HDB was better, I had 3 of each and finally ended with some drillings I liked for this core, mostly they were pin under ring, cg kicked with a low weight hole, the pearl was a very nice long ball with plenty of snap on the back, (of course i was rev dominate at that point, 400+ but only 15.2-15.5 at the deck) revs are the same but speed is up 2mph so I would probably get a different look now

for 45 id give it a go
