Title: Anyone disappointed with their +Carbide+?
Post by: Sir Bowl-A-Lot on June 23, 2006, 12:36:40 AM
Just curious because I have been hearing rumors that this ball is not as strong of a ball as it was originally advertised to be.

I think the Carbide Plus is the best ball Lane 1 has come out with in a long time.  As I read earlier and its true, the coverstock on the Carbide Plus can be adjusted easily but I think box condition on medium lanes works extremely well for this ball.

Hope to read other's opinions.

I am not saying this is the case with this ball as I have not tried yet, but this situation happens very often with new strong balls when they are not used on enough oil. 5% is still a relatively heavy load of particles (yes, I know, not compared to the Super Carbide Bomb) and it needs at least medium-heavy oil UNLESS you have more ball speed and/or axis tilt than revs.

Many people try to use it on a house shot with either a weak pin position or adding a good dose of polish.

Brunswick-made particles are notoriously early lane grabbing balls.

in my opinion, the C+ is for meduim-heavy condition and up

I am ordering a 2nd one ... my friend who usually plays down-n-in, played the middle ( standing 35 and break point 10-13) and ball finished strongly

to use this ball for meduim to dry lanes .. is like using a plastic ball for heavy oil

i drilled one for a friend and it is definately not as strong as advertised....we have changed surface 2 times now trying to get a little more out of the ball..ive thrown it a couple times and it doesnt roll well for me either...my tsunami out hooks it by 5-6 boards...this is on ths with plenty of oil in middle playing 20 out to 9....

Strikealot, if your Tsunami is out hooking your Carbide Plus, there's definitely not enough oil for it and your lanes are somewhat drier. =:^D

I agree with twoheadedboy

many bowlers mistake the heavy oil balls for "big backend" .. some of them might do it .. but in general, these balls are meant to grap the lane faster .. there is no way to have a ball for heavy oil and the ball hooks 20 boards

the closest I have seen yet is the EU sanded .. it handled the heavy oil very nice and it showed some movement at the backend

i understand what you are saying, but my tsunami does perform better in oil than the carbide+, this is in 2 different houses one with med-heavy oil, more than your ths would put out..maybe i just havent had enough oil to let it shine...i guess the carbide+ is burning up too early, it wants to read early, lope for a min and try to recover but really doesnt..guess its more of a conditional ball...

My only disappointment is that it's not drilled yet...

Excellent ball for the heavier side of medium.

Mighty, sounds like the lanes could've been hooking early and the Carbide was burning up. This could be why the pearl balls worked better. Just a thought. =:^D

Time to bust out the old "People just don't get particles" thread.
