W/ all the recent talk of balls cracking, It hit me that most seemed to be solids.
Is there any reason why the solids i.e. buzzbomb and dynamo are cracking more so that the pearls ???
Just an observation not necessarily related to L1, but it seems most other MFg's are also having problems w/ solids and not pearls ???

Could be what is in the solid's that is not in the pearl's? That would be my 1st thought, I might be completely way off since I don't really have any idea what chemical's make up the material of these bowling ball's.

I don't know the make up either, but I think it's a relevant topic to address the recent wave of cracking going on, and lets be clear also. This is not a L1 only issue, because after all these are being produced by G900

the first question to my mind is how many of these cracked balls are on ball cups vs laying on the floor?

Last two balls that cracked on me were pearls. Both on cups, off the ground

B-dawg, We average about 10 cracked balls per year...
Now many times the bowler will say they had stored their ball in a closet, etc... for some length of time.. And when they took it out, it was cracked.
Also, the shells on todays balls are only about 3/8 - 5/8 of an inch thick.. Older balls were sometimes 1 1/2" thick....
To me, I believe that has something to do with any increase in balls cracking...
Also, we have had 2 balls crack that were on display.... Now that's just 2 balls in all the time we have been open... Just over 3 weeks now...
Also, I don not see a cracking issue higher on any brand...

Is the thinner shells because of cost cutting measures or because of the bigger cores going into some of these newer balls?

Were they cracked deep and all the way around or were they more like a hairline crack? I've seen hairline cracks in brand new undrilled Brunswick before.

3 holes of fun!!

My "guess" is Cost Cutting on thinner shells....
Now as for the cracked ball on display... Was a deep crack all the way around the ball.... <<<< Very uncommon. I believe I had this happen twice in all our years....

yeah i hate the thinner shells, and i definitely think it plays a role also
and i have said before, bowlers who buy performance balls will pay an extra 20 spot for a durable ball imho
