Ball that would fit
« on: July 17, 2008, 05:13:34 PM »
Under a label drilled HRG, I live in the pocket with this ball, carrydown is an issue with it though, around the 9th frame of game #1, I start pinging tens.. then start fishing around for carry, usually don't find it. Staying in the pocket is not the issue. I start out big, then game 2 lose it, and most nights never find it again. I have done this since I pulled the ball out of retirement, (only reason it was retired was I dropped ball weight) and had issues with the thumb not being right. Got the thumb issue fixed, now it seems to be my go to ball. What ball will handle carrydown a bit better? I have some a lot of Lane #1 laying around and am not adverse to trying something else. Pearl U, is same way.. live in the pocket with it but at times carry is an issue.

if carrydown is an issue why not go for a stronger ball drilled smoother?

What Lane 1 bowling balls do you have laying around and how are the drilled?

think you'd have a ball to go to.  I beleive that the Enriched was 5 % particle, but with a higher pin and a touch of Sauce you would have a ball that would kick out the 10 pin.

. . . The Enrich U test balls are 5% particles
. . . but the production ones are 3%

. . . I would recommend Carbide Plus with 5% particle load

. . . OBTW

around the 9th frame of game #1, I start pinging tens..

Sorry Roy,  I wouldn't recommend a Carbide Plus for any lane condition especially if I was already having difficulty kicking out the 10 pin.  The EU has more snap and retains/has more energy than the C +.  But thats just my opinion and many bowlers thought highly of the C +.  I had no luck.

Thank you for the info about the particle load on the EU.

first question is how is the shot, med dry, med  med heavy?
Length of shot?
ability to move left and stay in the oil?
if you have the ability to move left and the oil volume/length is there
a particle pearl would be nice, give the EU is becoming increasingly hard to find, maybe a nebula would fit here, I also like a good solid ball, fairly rolly that you can move left and pitch it right and let if just roll, carry down shouldnt be an issue with that (tsunami, supernova xp with the surface taken down just a notch, even an evolution may fit but its squirty as well

on edit a hybrid dirty bomb could fit this bill quite well also

moving up and back doenst help with the ten pins?

The best ball for carry down that I ever owned of any brand of ball, is the Solid Cobalt Bomb. I sold it and still don't know today why I did. Big mistake on my part.

I'd opt for a G Force Nebula with either a long pin to PAP (like 5-1/2") or a short pin to PAP (1-2"). Which I'd choose will depend on how the head oil holds up. Close pin to PAP drills tend to roll earlier which requires the oil in the heads to hold up if you want the ball to get down the lane.

Just an opinion.

close pin to pap driling is really good on that type of shot Doug, especially if head oil is there.  I use my Tsunami with a 2" pin drilled pin 1/2 left of pap and 2" above pap, big hole on pap, with the MB kicked back towards the thumb.  This ball doesnt overreact and reads down lane like a champ.  threw it on Viper last week and it looked really nice got to the break easily and still had the punch to make the turn.  carry down late in game 2 and 3 didnt seem to bother it too much

I would try a longer pin, 3-4" out drilled over the fingers with the CG slightly out, roughly a 5 x 4. Leave a 3 to 2 ration top to side with ending weights. The new BuzzBOMB/R would be killer, but maybe with the pin just below the fingers. =:^D
