Semi-pin layouts on Lane#1 = Destruction
« on: January 27, 2008, 01:24:42 AM »
Well I have tried two semi-pin axis layouts on the Cobalt pearl and the Solid Uranium. Cobalt is around 2" from pap and the Solid is about 1 1/2" from the pap. Both balls get down the lane really well, but what is unique about the reaction, is that they start revving up the entire lane, until the breakpoint where they turn consistently surprisingly harder than I would have expected. This layout for me combines strong midlane read (which I usually dont have with other balls and layouts), and a hard arcing backend.

And carry? This is the ball you want to have when in match play. By now, I am sworn on Lane1's carry and mixing ability, but the Solid really throws pins across the deck like few others. Since the ball is reading the lane early, I do not see solid nines as much of a problem either. But dead flush, it hasn't left one pin yet in about 8 games. Offhits is where you get to see the Lane1 "action". Almost seems unfair for the pins haha.

I will have to get a video up to compare the reactions of this drilling.

Did you guys put the cg on the midline? Should be picking up a used Lane #1 ball pretty soon and would like to try this drilling on it. What surfaces do you like with this drilling?

Well both my Cobalt and Solid have the CG stacked below the pin. The Cobalt is polished up and perfect for lighter oil. The solid handles fresh oil really well and that wasn't even with some surface on it. I hit it with a used white scotchbrite pad, that usually just cleans up the surface and puts a very light sheen on it.

Overall, though I haven't tried this drilling with any other company, Lane#1 balls have really matched up with it, at least for myself.

Alright here's the link to my Lane1 equipment. And you can see big difference in drilling between the the Solid and Cobalt, versus my two others with normal layouts. Biggest difference I notice is the strong midlane read I get from the closer pin-pap layouts. The 5 1/2" and 4 1/2" on the Enriched and Hybrid respectively, do not give that kind of read on fresh oil at all. The cobalt doesnt on fresh oil but that is because is it too weak. Overall, I am very impressed with this layout and it is something to try if you want to experiment. Even with the 1 1/2" pin on the Solid, I thought it would be super smooth, but actually it revs up the entire lane and still turns rather pronounced on the backend. Here's the link:

Appears to be a Hybrid Dirty Bomb based on the logo.

Yeah the purple one is the Hybrid Dirty Bomb. Used to be dark blue and black. I gave it a hot water bath and the ball turned out looking like a Tsunami, no lie. It was bright blue. Now it turned back to its darker state but now it is more dark purple with brighter purple splashes. Looks pretty neat actually but it is the only ball I have that changes color that drastically

WOW!
My HDB is mostly blue and black.
I gave my Solid Uranium a bath and it lightened up a bit, but not nearly as drastic a change as what you have there. That looks pretty cool.

i never really measured the distance from CG to PAP but my PAP is about 4 1/2" over and 1/2" down. So in that sense, the CGs in the pics look to be within 2" of my axis. Hope that helps
