ball death is the subject of great debate
imo........the ball doesn't die ( unless you kill it )
the covers of today absorb oil at a great rate, and the covers become saturated w/ oil causing them to loose reaction, and possibly hitting power.

there are several ways to extract the oil in the cover, and just like magic your old baby is back and good as new.

if you look at manufactures suggestions they have recommendations as to how often this should be done, and a lot depends on you and how much oil you see.

some balls absorb at much higher rates than others

think of it as an oil sponge

oil extraction methods used by yours truly
dishwasher ( my fav )
hair dryer ( works in a pinch )
sunbathing ( very effective in summer, not so good in winter )
pro shop rejuvenating machine ( preferred method of house hacks all across the land, but its not cheap imo to have this done, and i'd rather do things myself )

other methods not used ( nor will i ever )
oven baking ( im not sticking my balls in the oven. )
hot water method ( too labor intensive for me )

The reason i asked is that i don't know very much lane #1 coverstocks, but i know that anything that ebonite makes is high maintainence, and still it might lose its reaction. So any info on lane#1 covers would be appreciated.

The only issue I ever had with a Lane#1 ball was the BuzzBomb cause it soaks up oil like a sponge.  Gave it a hot water bath and the ball was as good as new..  I had a ton of games on it at that point, and is still one of my best balls I use today...

I use my normal cleaning regimen (wipe the ball off between shots, clean it with a clean towel and ZappIt ball cleaner before I put the balls away). Then I use Clean N Dull and an Abralon pad every couple of weeks.

The Lane 1 covers over time have been very durable and high perfoming.

I appreciate all the info and i just bought a g-force evo from zeusjr, and i am going to rico it so we will see what happens, i expect it to have alot of backend. the first ball i tried the rico on was a storm t-road solid that we polished, and the roll was amazing, but i would like more backend, so hopefully it goes well.

I've had almost everything made, never ever lost any reaction whatsoever.
Self admittedly, I dont clean my stuff like I should.

That should answer your question.
(And Lane1 has never given me anything except good drilling advice)

Evo on fresh light to med, is a killer backend ball. As long as your bowling on fresh light to med oil this ball is a BEAST.

Backend out of a pearl particle? it is strong but one of my weaker pieces that I go to on fresh oil with srceamin backends, I use it to smooth out the over reaction I seem to always get.
