Deciding on a Buzzsaw
« on: July 23, 2003, 03:41:03 AM »
Im just wondering i need a ball for light to medium possible medium oil, i was told that the silver buzzsaw would be a good choice but i also heard that the blueberry would be a good choice also. but i thought the blue berry was for medium to possible heavy oil.

Any help on which ball i should turn to for light to medium oil.

Thanks,
Nizzo

The blueberry is NOT a light or medium light oil ball!!!

Medium to heavy polished or sanded...... I know I have them both ways and cannot keep the polished one in the pocket on anything but the heaviest of what I see around here.

Everyones definition of oil patterns is different.  What I consider lite may be medium for someone else.  With that being said, the Silver diamond is probably going to be the closest you can find for the lighter oil patterns.  I've heard the XL works on lighter patterns but haven't thrown one myself.

Right now the only ball in Lane 1 lineup that I consider a light pattern ball is the plastic XXXL.  Going to be my next purchase.

I do not understand what Buzzhead is saying, because I scuffed my BB, and I can keep it on the pocket on med/oily.  You have the same ball speed as I, and I have above average revs too.  I would recommend the Cherry Bomb for medium to med/light.  If you want a medium to heavy, the BB should work, but not knowing your rev rate or how much your ball moves (especially since you are a lefty), I can only speculate.  The SD will not be a Heavy ball however, the BB would work well.  The New Black Cherry Bomb amy be a good ball for medium to heavy, but the rumors that surround the ball to replace the BB, give the impression that that would be the choice.  For plain med to med/light I would choose the Cherry Bomb, or the Emerald.

The Blueberry can be a light/med. oil ball if you want it to be. I struggled on a short 20ft. oil pattern, this summer, throwing the BB. Finally moved back to right center and rolled the ball with 0 degrees of rotation(released the ball with my palm straight up). I would throw just inside the second arrow, the ball would go to about 40ft. and then make a little bitty move right to the pocket. I didnt really lose any hit or carry either. My point? Save your money. You have some decent stuff already. There are many factors to the ball release. Mess around a bit and you might be surprised at what you can do.

I would go with the silver diamond. I have one and it should fit in where your looking for it. The only problem I found is the length on lighter oil. It has a really shape break point. I throw with above average speed and a lot of revs. I had trouble getting it to hit the pocket, so I sanded it to 2000 grit and polishied it up and that did the trick. But for medium to was perfect. Hope this helps.

Nizzo,

For a "medium" pattern I would suggest ( I can't believe that nobody has mentioned it unless you already have one )the emarald over the silver diamond.  The emerald has a sharper move to the pocket than the silver diamond and has reculted in much better carry and area for me to play on medium oil.  If you have a ton of revs the emerald may be a little to squirrely for the condition.

I would have agreed except his post said lite to maybe medium.  Silver was the only one I've thrown that stands a chance of working on the lighter pattern.

If you have lots of revs or less than average ball speed, the XL would be the perfect ball for you. There are no surprises with the XL. Smooth, even reaction to the pins.

If you like a sharper breakpoint, try the Silver Diamond or the Emerald.

I personally think the Emerald is a better all around ball but the SD with proper layout is a killer on fresh, light oil. I just drilled one for SawMill and he doesn;t know it yet but it works pretty well :-)

The Emerald (again with proper drilling) would be a viable option as well and probably more versatile.

The Cherry Bomb would be an excellent choice with a pin over the bridge, cg under the ring type drilling if you lack revs.

I do have all of the listed balls in stock if interested. Drop me an email and I can get you prices.  Thanks !!!
