OUT OF BOX FINISH
« on: June 28, 2010, 12:14:22 PM »
where can we find the out of box finish for lane 1 balls? When i go on to the lane 1 website, most of the time they just say..highly polished, but it doesnt tell me the grit or anything like that.

They didn't post those details in the past.

Which balls are you looking for?

For the Brunswick poured balls (Pearl Cherry Bomb, Uranium Pearl, Tsunami H2O, Enriched Uranium, Blueberry, Cobalt Bomb Pearl), if they were matte, they were probably 220 grit + rough buff.  If they were shiny, they were 400 grit + high gloss polish.  The SCB was probably 400 grit sanded.

PCB was actually a 1200 grit finish with polish.
I use a 1000 Abralon + polish and get a great read/reaction out of mine.
I''ve complained several times about the lack of info on older stuff on the Lane #1 site...but I have never seen anybody fix the site. I''ve had better luck just calling or e-mailing Lane #1. They''ve always answered my questions.

What in the world do you use to get to 1200 grit?  Some odd Scotch Brite?  Everything else I've seen is either 1000 or 1500 grit.

Strider...remember the pearl carbide bomb was a particle and Brunswick was using TriZact to finish their particle balls. I think the white Trizact pad was something like 1200 grit.

Thanks for the info Doug.  I wasn't doubting him, but hadn't heard of it either.  I forgot about the older stuff being Trizact.  The SCB might have been finished with a rougher Trizact pad as well.

Strider,

Remember back in the days the Pearl Cherry Bomb, people weren''t using Abralon. 1200 grit was probably the US/CAMI rating. In terms of Abralon, that''s a little finer than P2000 grit and closer to P2500 grit.

Though I doubt Lane#1 used it, Track had a compound called Clean and Smooth. It theoretically finished balls to 1200 grit.

Doug,

White Trizact is around P6000 - P8000 grit. That's a lot finer than a P4000 grit Abralon pad.

Sorry charlest...guess I had the color wrong.

As a side note I have found a source for 800 and 1500 grit Siaair pads. I am going to order a bunch of pads at some point within the next month or so. Anyone interested drop me a PM.
