Black Cherry Bomb
« on: July 05, 2005, 07:19:42 AM »
I just bought this ball from a friend. I had the thumb plugged and redrilled to my specs. I've only thrown it a couple of times, but didnt really care for the ball. The pin is 1 1/2 right of the ring finger with the CG stacked below. From what I've read on the ball it was supposed to hook quite a bit. It just wasnt what I thought it would be. How does this ball react for any of you guys.....

Try knocking the shine off of it. Many people have reported that the factory shine makes the ball weaker than what was intended. I took the shine off of mine before I ever threw it, and I found it to be every bit as strong as advertised.

Well the house shot was 36 feet of oil and there was an out of bounds around ten. This was the shot they put down for the league the night before. There was some carrie down........

I was told the this was a Med to Heavy Oil ball. I plenty of balls to move right with. Maybe I'm disappointed because it didnt hook out of the house. I'll probably end up selling it if I can.

I wonder if it has been drilled properly for you.

With the pin 1.5' to the right of the ring finger implies your PAP is either far out, like about 6" (whichis a very high track) OR your driller placed the pin closer to your PAP, (maybe 3" of less) to provide control which is, of course, a smaller hook.

So a lot depends of what your PAP, and how your driller THINKS he drilled your ball and what you asked for. I'd invetsigate that before anything else.

This ball does hook a lot. How much oil it handles depends on your hand and how much polish is on the ball. The coverstock is Brunswick's PK 18, a strong resin coverstock.

This ball does hook a LOT. But like most "hook monsters", it needs a LOT of oil. Especially in the heads. Or it can look like it's totally weak.

For example - I had a teammate who had a brand new Vertigo. He insisted on throwing it on a second shift league shot, and was disappointed in the ball. I had him bring it to an oil fest practice session - he then realized what I was talking about - now loves the ball, and doesn't take it out of the bag unless there's enough oil to support it.

I'm not sure what's going on with the drilling, but it sounds like it's set up kinda weak.

I love my BCB. I've just learned when to use it.

Ok update, I used it on fresh oil. The ball really was digging early and had nice pop on the backend. I really had to send it to get it to stay in the 1-3. The ball really worked well, I was impressed. It did play the same amount of boards as my Big Bully, so I'll scuff it up a bit the get more reaction to it.
All in all it's a nice piece of equiptment, hits and carries well.

The more you scuff it, the more oil it will need!!
It will also hook earlier, not necessarily more.

OK, thanks for all the info. Not sure what I'm going to do with this ball since my Big Bully reacts in the same manner.
