Black Panther..............intial thoughts
« on: March 29, 2011, 04:24:28 AM »
beginning ball specs 15#3oz, 3.5 pin 3.25 top weight

bowler specs 17 mph at the pins, 400 revs, approx 9 degrees of tilt, PAP over 5 up 0

ball layout 55 x 4 x 30 weight hole at p2.5

intial impressions, very strong in the mids, it definitely want to roll up and needs at least a moderate volume to push thru the heads to get a good look at the pocket

its smooth and makes a very nice hard arc to the hole which is exactly what I was looking for.  unlike the pink panther I drilled I drilled this ball to its strengths instead of trying to make it work on a condition that  its not intended for.  my intentions were for this ball to be for the heavy side of medium and it does that very well, as with most oil balls its not about covering boards but getting back to the hole and finishing well enough to carry.  We put the nationals shot out last night, and it played fairly true to what I have seen in the past, we have the same lanes and same machine we just use a different oil and there are differences to be seen, but that being said this ball allowed me to square up and attack the pattern in the appropriate spot, it had plenty of recovery to make it back, although no miss room in the middle i had a pinch outside 10-7 board area was pretty good, outside of 7 nothing was coming back and you left a washout pretty much everytime

the spot i liked this ball best was 12 to 7 and let the ball be a little light in the pocket, it carried better then anything we threw at the pattern

on our house shot this ball was just money, easy to throw, got a decent push up front and smashed the pocket, carrying the world, thus far for me its a better rolling ball vs my pin under pink, it makes a smoother turn off the dry and retains more energy at the pins a great med/heavy ball with enough motor to get you thru the soup, its not a big turner in the oil but if you play the oil like you should scores are easy

def has found a place in the bag late in the season

as a follow up I got to use this on our house shot last night, ball was super impressive during practice chasing the oil line this ball was super, threw 6-7 in a row in practice

get to the game and first frame I leave a 4 pin on a slightly light shot, proceed to go the next 10 in a row, with the ball being flush on every one, step up for the 12th shot and I pulled it a tick inside ball almost held and finish leaving another single pin for 289, ball pushes well, is not overly snappy, just a very very smooth rolling piece that ripped the rack with ease ball is super strong in the hole, and it can be a big bender if a guy wants to bounce it off the edge, for me its a touch longer then the pink but equally as strong coming back

i have to agree... i just got this drilled up today, 4.5in stacked layout and it is smooth with a great move to the pocket.  and once it hits no pins are safe, i missed a few high but the messengers were flying every which way to take out the stragglers.  can't wait till league night when i can try this thing out on some fresh lanes

followed up with a second 11 strike 279 game and 725 set with this ball, crazy carry, explosive in the pocket, buttery smooth thru the lane  really looking forward to this ball along with the black fire in Reno, based upon my practice on the nationals shot we are putting down, these two balls are money
