Got my replacement X2...
« on: December 07, 2009, 12:49:54 AM »
Ok so i got my replacement X2, and when i opened the box i was a little disappointed in the pin to cg distance. top weight on the label says 4 ozs. SO...im hoping Doug Sterner or others on her could give me some direction on how to drill this piece with all that top weight and short pin to cg distance.

Right now im leaning towards pin under my middle finger with cg kicked 45 degrees and maybe a low hole. I am trying to get this ball to on between a momentum swing and a buzzbomb/r for mediums and house shots. So what do you guys suggest? p.s. my specs are in my profile. here is a pic of the ball:http://s826.photobucket.com/albums/zz189/stopncrank/Mobile%20Uploads/?action=view¤t=2009-11-30-151233_2110_10_440.jpg&newest=1

stopcrank, without knowing your PAP, a general layout that works well is pin just under the ring finger and the cg kicked out 1" from there. Drill the finger holes around 2 1/4" deep. This will take out excessive top and also manage the finger weight.

A weight hole will be necessary. Leaving side weight will keep the length and promote a stronger hook on the back, unless the ball goes too long from the get go. If that's the case, take out more side weight and/or take the surface down a bit in grit, either 4000 or 2000 abralon. =:^D

thanks T-GOD, my pap is 5" over and 1/2" up. Yeah i have been thinking pin under middle finger and cg kicked out with a low hole, but i may just go with what you suggested. still looking for more thoughts though...anybody else??

stop, you may want to split the difference and go with the in directly under the bridge with the CG kicked out. With the pin under the middle finger, you will get less flare and more length in oil, with possibly more over/under on wetter lanes. With your speed and revs, slightly stronger, but not too strong may be the way to go. =:^D

yeah, the original ball i had i went pin under bridge with cg kicked 45 degrees and a weight hole on my val. i didnt know what the difference would be since the new ball has a shorter pin to cg distance. the original ball was a monster out of the box for me, i really shot some great numbers with it. hopefully i can get the new one at least close to the original. thanks alot T.

Most likely the only difference you would see here is how big and where you put the weighthole. With a shorter pin the hole will most likely be closer to the midline as opposed to the thumbhole.

If this were my ball I would drill it up pin under the bridge with the cg kicked to the point of giving you 3/4 oz side weight.

Start with your standard depth on the fingerholes and then go deeper if you need to remove fingerweight.

Buzzsaws with higher topweights give you great midlane and controlled backend when you can drill them without balance holes.

Another option would be to go pin under ring and throw the cg out to give about 1-1/2 oz side wt. The place your balance hole appropriately.

Good luck.

Stopncrank, I had a storm jolt solid with a 1 1/8 inch pin drilled 5 x 4 5/8 pin directly under ring and went to take it out of my bowling bag and saw a crack exactly in the same place as what happened to your ball. The stinky thing is trying to get another ball to do the same thing as the first one did

I agree River, this is the second ball i've had crack, the first being a Storm Trifecta.

I try to have the pin at least 1" from finger holes.
