gripnrip,

I just checked at Buddie's.  Charlest is correct.  The Black Cherry Bomb is on sale for $155.

Damn it!!!  They are on special for $155, but that is only for 14 or 15lbs with 1-2" pins. I'd love to pick one up, but I throw 16lbs.

Bowling is without a doubt the dumbest, most pointless, most idiotic excuse for a game that has ever been invented. So, what time are we bowling tomorrow?

Not only 15 lbs, 1-2" but also with 3.5 to 4oz. top weight only.

90% of the people here use 15 lb balls AND
given the abslutely HUGE flare potential for a BCB,
a 1-2" pin should be alsmot ideal for anyone with more than 3 or 4 revs to the pocket .... 3.5 oz top weight - not a problem by any means. Heck, drill the holes a little bit deeper.
So what are all you Lane#1 fanatics waiting for?

Charlest,

All of this technical jargon is way above my head so could you answer a few questions for me?

Why is having the pin from the CG not that bad? I thought you needed at least 2-3" to have more to work with for layouts.

Is it necessarily a bad thing to have 3.5-4.0 oz. of topweight as long as you have some positive side and finger to help it turn the corner?

How does drilling the finger holes deeper help counteract this much topweight?

Also, are their any recent books on how to do or understand the techniques of drilling a bowling ball? Thanks in advance people.

When you've moved up, moved back, adjusted left and right, cupped, flattened out, have thrown everyting in your arsenal, and the pins still don't cooperate, just say, "Aw to HELL with it!", and throw the ball!

One of the implications of pin-to-CG distance is that the larger the pin distance the more flare you will get, as a potential maximum, depending on the bowler's release, from a given ball. One can almost set up a table of how much "potential" flare is possible, for a ball based on the pin distance. Since the flare for any given bowler for any given ball is generally proportional to the RG differential for that ball, AND given that the BCB's RG differential is in the LARGE range (.072; the maximum allowed by the ABC is .080), a BCB with  1-2" pin-CG distance will flare as much as most balls with a 2-3" whose RG differential is in the .040-.055 range. An RG differential of around .050 is considered by most manufacturers to be HUGE!

This trait, one needs side and finger to make a ball turn the corner, is left over from the dark ages of plastic, urethane and 3-piece balls with TRUE pancake cores. for all practical purposes, it is my opinion that the average bowler, even the avg bowler here on BR.com, can virtually ignore side and finger weight. The dynamic core rules and the combo of the core and the cover plus the bowler's release and the oil pattern are 99% of what you need to worry about.

I just drilled up a Hercules, it has almost 1 oz negative side and 1 oz finger weight. This ball can flip like a XXXX.

I am not saying ignore side and finger totally, but it does not deserve 1/4 of the attention that some people are giving it. Others WILL disagree; but if you're asking this question, I think you can safely ignore it for a while longer.

Drilling all 3 finger holes deeper removes top weight and will soften or reduce some side or thumb weights.

Almost every ball manufacturers' webiste has tons of technical documents that will help you learn a lot of this type of info. See Ebonite, Columbia, Storm, Brunswick and others. Sunscribe to Bowling This Month magazine; it is one the best helpers for higher average bowlers who care about their bowling.

155??????? maybe I will just have to buy from them since, thats cheaper than I just paid for 2 cases.

Not cool Lane #1 , not cool at all.

Nice to know all my business was really appreciated.

Selling for 155 means they probably paid 110-120.
