Drilling a Uranium with a 1-2" pin
« on: February 23, 2005, 07:46:12 AM »
Hello all Lane 1 peoples,

I received my Uranium today and I have a 1-2 inch pin.  I was wondering what a good drilling would be.  I am wanting to get a pretty strong arc not a snap.  Would something like the pin under the middle and the cg swung towards pap.  Anyone with ideas please give input.

Thanks, Slipknot

Slipknot, in my experience you can drill a Uranium with the Label layout from the specs page and because of the ball's smooth rolling core, it won't snap out of control, but instead will give you the hard arc you are looking for.  Mine is a 3-4" pin, but I would think that your 1-2" pin would only enhance the effect I just described.  I wouldn't hesitate to drill it label, IMO.

LANE1_BoWlEr,

The only problem I was having wihtt hat drilling was that it would start up pretty early.

You bring up a pretty good point SawFreak.  I was thinking that lable would be to much backend but with the 1-2 inch pin it just may work out for me.  Also I have never thrown Lane 1 so I did'nt know about how good the core is as far as how smooth rolling it is.

Well it does also have a higher top weight of 3.7 oz.  That may help with length also.  Looking ate the sheet would Pin Axis be a good drilling?

The Uranium is very smooth. I don't know if I'd put the pin under the middle finger. Maybe under the ring w/slight CG out or stacked under the ring. I don't know how you bowl or any of your axis measurements, so it's hard for me to say for sure. =:^D

Hey T-God,

Here is a vid of me.  Doug told me the same kinda drilling.  The pin under ring and the cg swung out.

Slip, nice video..!! The layouts I suggested should work fine. If you feel that the ball is too strong off the dry, drill an axis hole in the ball to take out side weight and/or finger weight by drilling the fingers down deeper. =:^D

Slipknot: I have a Uranium with 1.75" pin, and the drilling is label leverage. The pin is under the ring, and the CG is swung in towards the center of the grip. No balance hole was required.

The ball is very smooth arching reaction. It doesn't have the skid/snap usually associated with label leverage drills. This has a lot to do with the core and shorter pin combination.

T-GOD is very knowledgable with Lane#1 drillings, so if you have to choose, consider his recommendations. Just consider that if you do go with label leverage, don't worry about too much backend on this ball.
