Bullet drilling?
« on: July 15, 2005, 07:55:38 AM »
Hey everyone,

I just completed a deal for a barely used Lane 1 Bullet (thanks Billy Sewell). Anyhow, I'm wondering how I should drill it. According to Billy, the current layout has the pin under and slightly right of the ring finger, cg in grip center. I want the ball to be used when my Blazing Inferno (pin above bridge, cg just negative of grip center) is still a bit too much. I'm looking for length with just a very controlled move through the deck. The problem is that I don't know how strong the ball is by its nature. I don't want to drill it too strong and have it overlap, but I don't want to drill it too weak and have a high-priced spare ball on my hands. That's why I'm deferring to you experts. How should I lay this bad dog out? I throw the ball 18-19 mph with average to slightly above average revs and a very high track. Thanks in advance for the help!

Given the nature of the ball, a very weak resin cover and a core with almost no flare anyway, I think it is meant for the very driest of lanes on which a resin ball can possibly be used. I don't think the drilling makes that big a difference with such a ball.

If I were you, I'd just plug the thumb hole and redrill it for my own pitch and span. If it were hooking uncontrollably early (which is possibly but VERY hard to imagine), then I'd redrill it to place the pin at 6" AND above the fingers.

This is probably one of those balls where MAYBE, just MAYBE there are 2 posisble drilling that would truly make a difference: label and pin in the track.
