Well guys I know most of you are seriously hyped on the Agent Orange right now but I have to tell you....the Chainsaw is an AWESOME piece!!!!

I decided to drill my Chainsaw before I drilled my Agent Orange because I was looking for a smoother and more even reaction. Man does the Chainsaw deliver!

With this layout I have a 5x4 with pin under. The weighthole is 2" below my PAP (5-1/4 right up 1/2).

This ball has big top weight and I wanted that for a reason....due to the lack of flip blocks on this core it is very static weight sensitive. So I had my rep hook me up with a higher top wt ball.

The ending statics of the ball are 15-0 gross, 3/4 side, 1/4 finger, 1-1/2 top.

The ball is so smooth and even on our wet/dry house shot I can't stand it! IF you want to play the oil line and still have a little room in and out without the risk of leaving big messes, the Chainsaw is the ball you need. I can't say it enough...this ball reaction is a must have for every bowler. The reaction here is very close to the fabled Storm Tour Power...tons of control but with power at the pocket.

I got the ball drilled exactly 5 minutes before practice started so I still needed to do a few tweaks to the thumb which kept me from having a stellar night but I shot 210-210-180 for a 600 on the nose out of the box.

I can't overstate it enough....a must have.....thanks to Chuck, Richie and the whole Lane 1 crew for giving the bowlers a control piece....
I used then ball again tonight for a 258-195-224....677

so its not a skid/snap ball?

The ball is definitely not a skid-snap ball. The only way I can get a definitive move on the backend is if I add tilt with my release and throw the ball harder through the oilier portion of the lane and force it outside early. But then that shot will make my XXXL "snap" from time to time.

Compare to the Teal THS? That's a tough one since I am not really all that fond of my Teal THS. Drill pattern may be the culprit on the THS but I don't know for sure. What I can say is that the Chainsaw seems to be a better fit for broken down lanes. It gets downlane very easy and arcs into the pocket with a lot of control. I was not able to hit on the surface prep that my Teal liked on our house condition as it broke down.

I'll try to do a side by side with the Teal over the next couple of days to see what I can see in terms of differences and let you all know then.

I appreciate that, Doug, because I really need something right now that's tamer than my Tsunami but more controllable than my Evolution. I can't get the Evolution prepped in a way that it isn't condition-specific.

The third game of my weekly leagues is almost always a comedy show. If the lanes break down like they typically do, I and anyone else who likes to hook the ball have to start doing some really nutty stuff to keep the ball out of the face.

This is a perfect reason for you to invest in the Grip Loc system. Insert sleeve,insert thumb and perfect..

The best and esiest interchangeable thumb on the market...

Well Beans I have used the GripLoc in the past (before Lane 1 purchased the rights to the product) and liked the set up but stopped using it for a few personal reasons.

The Grip Loc system is the same deal as the Switch Grip with a few small differences....

1. The biggest is the hole size. To use the Switch Grip you need a 1-1/2" hole drilled for the outer sleeve to go into the ball. The Grip Loc uses a 1-3/8 hole which is easier for people to swallow when it comes to needing to plug and redrill a used ball.

2. Availability and quality...I had a tougher time keeping the Grip Loc stuff on hand since I had to specially order them from an individual supplier. I could not just order them from my supplier whe I ordered inserts or tape or other stuff. I also had a few issues with the sleeves being tight or loose at times.

3. Cost....the GripLoc was (is?) SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than the SwitchGrip set up....especially from a pro shop guy stand point. The cost of the 1-1/2" drill bit alone is prohibitive in you don't have a big call for the product.

4. Location of the lock....Switch Grip is at the bottom of the hole while GripLoc uses offset opposed pins in the top 1/2 of the insert.

Now that Lane 1 has acquired the product I may give it another look...or maybe try the Switch Grip if I have the coin freed up to get the pro shop kit.

There has been major modifications since then Doug. I too had the same problem but the Grip Loc was redesigned.

Lane#1 now offers 1 1/2" outers but I prefer the 1 3/8" outers.

There is far less chance for the Grip Loc to break like the Switch Grip. Ask anyone whose had the Switch grip and they will tell you a few stories I am sure. The Grip Loc is as easy to install as a pre drill thumb slug or molded thumb. The price is far more cost effective than the Switch Grip.

The some being tight and some being losse has to do with improper hole size. The balls expand and contract ever so slightly when drilling depending on the makeup of the ball contruction. You need to sand the hole until the sleeve easily slides into the drilled hole. This will guarantee perfect fits. If you need to hammer in the sleeve the hole is too small and that tends to mushroom the sleeve ever so slightly BUT....enough to tighten up the insert.

I have used all of the interchangeables and the Grip Loc is by far the easiest to install and easiest to use. I have installed 100's at the booth last year without 1 person contacting us about breakage.

Thanks Beans. I had no idea that modifications had been made. I'll get in touch with Chuck and see what he has to say.

The material the inner sleeve was made from seemed to be a big issue for some of the guys I installed them with. I had 2 fracture on me personally.

I'll give them a good 2nd look as you are correct in saying that I never had a thumbhole fit issue when I was using them :-)

Drilled my THS basic label, which has always been problematic for me on Saws.

I did it because my sales rep told me to try it since it was proven to be a good layout for the ball...just not for me I guess.
