Buzzbomb/R impression
« on: February 09, 2010, 07:31:37 AM »
Well I have been using my Buzzbomb/R (first Lane 1 ball I have ever had) for a few weeks now... and so far am pretty happy with it! I got it used so didn't really bother with layout, just had it plugged and re-drilled to my hand. Pin is to the left of my ring finger (sarge easter grip), so on a conventional finger-tip would be below bridge. CG is kicked out a little.

So far I have thrown the ball on a number of patterns. Here is a short overview of my findings on 2 shots:

Shot 1 - 42 feet, heavy oil - This is the heaviest shot around here, very heavy oil in the middle of the lane with a Christmas tree shape, is very easy pattern with ample mistake room however you need something that will generally read early. The B/R, with its polished finish, does not fair all that well on this shot. Playing outside with the B/R allowed the ball to read the shot early and provide its seemingly trademark smooth arc to the pocket. Unfortunately the ball is simply too weak to be used effectively on such oil volume, I was left looking at a lot of weak corners regardless of where I was standing, simply because with the long pattern the ball really never go the chance to pick up enough to "hit". On a heavy shot like this I give the B/R 6/10

Shot 2 - 38 feet, medium oil - This is my league shot, a very flat house shot, not a lot of play in the shot to "spray" the ball. The B/R reads this shot amazingly well. The B/R in my hands is not a hook monster by any means, and actually is one of the weakest reacting balls I have ever thrown, but the reaction shape is what is special with this ball, it is very early rolling and has a great smooth arc, something that on lighter shots has been a life-save for me. On this shot the ball reads the lane to a T, early pick-up, no roll out, very predictable and it allows me to play more in the track area. On medium shots this ball nets a 9/10

Overall I see this ball as a great addition to my arsenal, it is a great benchmark for me, as I don't like snappy balls that tend to be unpredictable in the backend. So far this week alone I have had the front 7 5 times with the B/R, that would be 5 times out of only 8 games... so no complaints! As I continue to use the ball I will update my feelings on it and eventually upload a video review and write up a full review. For now I give the ball a 8/10. A great medium/light ball in the OOB.

Bowler specs-
Ball Speed- 19mph
RPMS - 500 *calculated using bowlspot system*
axis rotation - 50 degrees
axis tilt - 5 degrees

I just recently started using mine again after using primarily 900Global stuff for the last year or so. On our scratch league, I still use my Break S-75 as my primary ball, but our other league has gone to one of the Kegel Recreation patterns and it has forced anyone with even decent hand to start playing across the lane. That's my "C" game at best, as I prefer to go straighter. But I found my BuzzBomb/R is a great match for this shot.

Of all the balls that have gotten a bad rap, be it from Lane #1 or anyone else, I understand it the least in regards to the BB/R. This is one great bowling ball.

I think the B/R's "bad rep" came because it is by no means a "big hook" ball... I seem to find people believe Lane 1 is hand and hand with huge hooking balls, this ball is not that ball at all, so people didn't like it.

I think people were anticipating a big snapping ball and the BB/R most definitely is NOT such a ball.

I know mine did not last in my bag very long but in looking back I jumped the gun...should have kept it for when the shot starts to go away.

What's kind of funny about this is that mine will backend pretty hard, even though it's drilled 3x3 stacked. Fairly angular when I tilt it a little and play laterally, but I can get behind it and it handles as much oil as some solids. Very versatile piece, considering it's a polished pearl.

Im right with you guys on the bb/r. Did not react like I thought, drilled up 50 x4x 65.Rolled real long and mild. Messed with the surface oob to 1500 cross hatch to 2000 degree polish, ball came right to life. Great backend pop now.

I thought mine was just a dud when it went 50+ feet before it even wrinkled on our THS.  I think Lane#1 was a bit off when they stated this on their website about the BB/R: "Hook Rating: 110 out of 120 max"

And don't I have your old one? It's crazy how much individual styles/house conditions matter with newer equipment.

Mine is/was the exact opposite. I drilled mine 5X5, pin over bridge, cg in the palm with no weight hole, and at oob surface it was a mid-lane monster. i changed the surface to 4000 polish and it now is a great med oil piece for higher friction surfaces like gaurdian.

I wasnt used to seeing a pearl start up that early and still read the mid lane and have a decent backend. Its definitely more of an arc type backend as opposed to hockey stick shape wise, which is misleading because of it being a pearl. I struggled with it until i changed the surface, for me oob it was way too early playing tighter lines, and i just didnt like the shape i was getting when i tried to cross boards with it. Now at 4000, it is tame enough for me to close down my angles and play straighter which is nice for my rev rate. It is one of those pieces you dont really have to worry about over-reacting to friction unless they are cooked.

Still loving this ball... 268 with it last league session... I really enjoy being able to play straighter with this ball and still see a smooth break.

I found the BB/R to be a very condition specific ball, too much oil and it got very squirty on the back ends...But when this ball hits a pattern and matches up good, it is awesome. this ball is amazing on a 39ft ths... I ordered in 6 balls at 1 time. 4 came dull and 2 came high polished... can anyone explain this

no idea about the inconsistent finish... but I don't find mine to be condition specific at all, would feel ok using it on heavy all the way to dust... this ball is like my new best friend

I imagine it works great for me is because I am a guy who usually see's a lot of reaction down lane, and with this ball I don't get that, so I can play more up the lane which is a advantage for me, especially on the THS where the closer I can start to the dry the easier it is for me to makes moves and it usually maximizes my mistake room.
