Can you justify paying more for a Lane One ball?
« on: December 28, 2003, 09:03:09 AM »
I don't have a beef with Lane one users but this company to me doesn't have a hold on me like some do. I'm not faithful to anyone company and i'll through and promote a ball from any company if i think it's good. I even tried a cherry bomb and gave it away.

Ok, understand a ball company can have a following but it doesn't make sense to over charge just for a particular core shape over any other. The Diamond shape core is yes a "proven" core but so is the standard pancake and lightbulb styles ones too.

Lane 1 made in brunswick factory, ok that is a well known fact. Another well known fact, Dynothane is made in the storm factory. So why do you listen when the company uses that as an excuse to explain why there prices are higher than other average high end releases. With there own actual tour staff( dynothane has, Lane one does not), with new cover designs( soaker), and lane one using brunswick covers and there special pattend Diamond core. Logically i can explain spending more on a dynothane ball that a comparabley priced ball from example : storm. But in fact there priced slightly lower than high end releases from storm.

IF you think for a few minutes using your business caps. The dynothane profit margins are likely lower per ball than Lane One's is. They have to deal with the middle man( manufactuers) to get the product to your proshop too. So does lane one but they charge everyone below them in the supply chain more. To me it doesn't make sense to charge more. Dynothane's balls and business practices to me make alot more sense than lane one's. That is why i can easily justify buying a dyno ball over a Lane one ball any day.

Dynothane= Very Good Product, at better than market prices.
Lane 1= Good Product that gets rehashed, at unreasonable prices.

If a company like track for example used the Morpheus core in all it's balls as it's basis for there core design what would you think? Little stale? Don't ya say? Balls are honestly not as well marketed by lane one as Dynothane's are. Although i do love the flash video music to Lane 1's site( gooooo TCM!!!) and dynothane does have any flash graphics. ( Tony, lol how bout some cool bowling vids, it's all the crazy in the Lane one forums )

Just two cents from a former proshop operator that would rather drill and sell a customer a ball from Dyno than Lane 1.

The true bottom line is
Lane#1 users are NOT complaining about the price and the ones who are complaining about the price of Lane#1 balls are not Lane#1 users.

End of story.

i have never sold a buzzsaw for under 50.00 bucks even two drilled so you do get your money back in an equal price to resale amount.

MRBOWLINGNUT: You make these two statements .. the ANOMALY sells at BLOCKBUSTERS (undrilled for $134 .. most LANE 1 balls are $160 (undrilled) .. Why you asking so much for ANOMALY .. I'll give you $50 for your ANOMALY (delivered)!

well said charlest...while i do not throw lane 1 (and yes its cause i cannot justify $40 + for roughly same spec ball) i dont have any problem with them either. They have always interested me, and the few people i know who use them swear by them.

I also think if you saw  some PBA victories with lane 1 stuff you wouldnt hear this debate so much.

Why do people pay so much more for sony TV's than most others?
And for someone to say a ball companies stuff is trash now thats just ignorant. ITs a ball. its round. Certain products are going to match up better to ones game than others.

So would i buy a  buzzsaw? i dont know, i wont say never.

IEQ,

I thought it was just me, but I guess not.  I saw this topic on the side of the road last night in the form of street pizza, like Charlest said if you're not in the market for a Buzzsaw don't even ask or bring this disaster back from the ashes.

I can justify paying the money for them, even if I say they don't work any better or worse than other equipment simply because PRICE IS NOT AN ISSUE PERIOD!

If there was huge difference in money, I could see the point of this post, but normally lane 1's are about 20 or 30 bucks more than any other companies premium ball. I personally don't see that making a difference in my decision on buying a ball.

If I read about a ball and I think it fits into my game, I'm gonna buy it.. Period..

Just my 2 cents on this issue..

I havnt read all the posts here, so excuse me if this has been said, but I think what TheDude was getting at is, why pay more for a lane1 ball, when you can get one just as good, for less! At least.....I think thats what he's getting at...

Raging Inferno $140
Golden Nugget  $149 at DougsProShop@aol.com

Thats only $9 difference and not $40

Kid, always check the prices before you post.

Here goes my two cents:

Lane #1 Golden Nugget from Doug $149 + $10 shipping = $159
Drilling with thumb slug and inserts from my local pro shop $32
Grand Total $159 + $30 = $189

My local pro shop does not carry Lane#1 merchandise so he does not charge me much for bringing him the balls to be drilled.  I'm sure if I brought him a brunswick or Columbia ball to drill he would not be too happy with me.

Pro Shop Prices (drilling and tax included)
High End Products
Storm - $195
Columbia & Brunswick - $190
Ebonite - $185

I don't feel that Lane#1 balls cost me that much more than others.  The only Lane#1 ball that I feel that I paid a little more for was the Super Carbide Bomb that cost me $230 drilled.  But until I see a ball that will cut through the oil and react like the SCB I feel that the extra $40 is money well spent.

As I said when I reviewed the XXXL I bought it used off of ebay and am glad I did. It's perfect for very dry lanes-----
Anyway I agree with those who say that whatever works FOR ME is what's in my bag. I don't have two balls from the same equipment line.
So I guess the old saying "To each his own" applies in my case. If you're loyal to a certain equipment line and they work for you that's great. After all it's us against those little pins.
If you have several different equipment lines in your arsenal again so be it.
I personally have Lane#1,Morich,Storm,Ebonite,Brunswick and an old Faball in my arsenal. At times they've fit the lane conditions and allowed me to bowl to the best of my ability on that particular day.
All that I have to say on the price issue is this------
My Dad once told me" you're going to pay for quality". If you think the ball is that good and will fit your game then it's your call.
 Good luck in your bowling-------------
 Chris

My 2 cents.  I have had the pleasure of owning and throwing two Buzzsaws (the original Viper and the Raz C2).  Both balls performed well for me especially the Raz C2 (sold to a forum member).  Yes.. they hit very well on the right conditions, better than average.  In fact if someone knows where I can find a new in box 15lb. 2-3in. pin Raz C2 let me know.  However, I would take a brand new Bruns. Command Zone (plum) any day of the week!  I personally believe that the people who complain the most about Lane 1 balls, are the ones who would like to try them.  They just don't want to fork out the extra cash to do it.  And to the guy who posted about AZO, I have two on the way!  I will post reviews after they have been shook out on the lanes.
