More HRG Thoughts
« on: November 02, 2006, 01:41:05 PM »
I got to use my HRG for the last 2 nights in league and let me add some to my original impressions.....

Again pics of teh ball can be seen here:

1. This is the cleanest Buzzsaw up front I have ever thrown. The ball gets down the lane VERY easily.

2. With this drill pattern it doesn't flare a ton but it'll recover from nearly anywhere and at least get near the pocket.

3. I managed to do something tonight I do very rarely....I shot 3 clean games...209, 227 and 210. The ball kept me out of trouble and did not leave anything nasty. I did not leave a single split in 3 games which I have not done all season.

4. I was able to use subtle hand position changes to alter the ball's reaction enough to keep me in my comfort zone and not have to move more than 2-3 baords the entire night.

I am very impressed with this ball so far. Granted I was bowling on our house shot but it's s tougher shot due to the rate and manner in which the breakdown occurs. I normally moved in excess of 12-15 bolards with my PEarl Cobalt even with hand position changes.

Order yours from me now for $159 (includes ball and a bonus item) or get it drilled with inserts and a slug for $199. Shipping will be a flat rate $10 per ball.

Drop me a PM or email with any further questions.

no it is a house shot but our old wood lanes have some very peculiar breakdown characteristics that make it tough to play.

Combine the burning heads with the Prodigy generated carrydown and the unique sanding method used to pull finish last year...

Every frame and every ball is an adventure...spares are a treat if you have any hand or any new technology...throw a Blue Hammer and you'll be fine and consistent but try anything with a cover or a core and it's an adventure...

Sorry Megamav if I don't measure up to your standards but out of our 90 guys in league there are maybe 15 clean games a night....

Thanks for the update.  Yes, the older houses can be tricky at best.  I used to bowl a "king of the hill" tournament in a small 6-lane OLD wood house after friday night leagues were finished.  Seemingly any oil from the center of the lane to the right hand side was pushed from the heads down the lane.  Outside, the ball checked up early going through the heads, moving inside to catch head oil left you with a ton of carry down to deal with...  Quite a challenging shot indeed.. if I could shoot 650, it was practically a lock to get into the roll offs at the end of the night (this was against guys and gals getting 70/150 handicap for the 3 game set).

hmm... I may have to consider an HRG if I ever start bowling those things again...

thats a shame, sounds like the house needs a resurface.

i bowled here at the bowlers club in latham, NY for a half season on that type of beat up surface, its no treat but definitely manageable, shot 738, 728, 700 within about a 15 week period, i grew up on wood, so, i guess its my calling.

certainly not a treat to bowl on, especially the number it does on equipment from friction, especially particle.

on synthetics now, waiting to breakout this season, but its just not happening yet, i can feel it, soon...

The lanes were just resurfaced during the summer of 2005. THey are smooth...the problem is the lane man and the owner refusing to put out a shot where guys with any type of newer equipment and and type of rotation can hold the ball right of the headpin.

Lett me do a rundown of what I regularly see on the racks in the 18 team 5 man team league....5 Blue Hammers, 2 Black Hammers, 2 Black Turbos. 1 Black U Dot, 1 White Dot, 4 Razor Wires, 4 Erasers, 2 Danger Zones, 1 Purple Rhino Pro, 8 Ti Messengers, Speed Zone, Rhino Pro X, Super Beast Ti, Bone XS, 3 Deuces, 2 XXX Factors, 2 Thunderstruck Solids, Pyro, Diablo, 1-One, 6 Power Grooves, 2 Ultimate Infernos, 5 Scorchin Infernos, 1 Big Time, ....of course there are a few new balls but right there's 1/2 the league without a ball made in the last 4 years...oh and did I mention not a sinlg eperson there plays any deeper with any of that equipment than I can with my 4x4 stacked XXXL???

3 of the top 5 averagers in our big league right now are full rollers....does that tell you anything?

It seems that the HRG is tailor made for my my game and my house....lots of length and lots of recovery. If I up the back the ball it'll settle down and roll in very nice. If I get off the side and hit it some it'll turn the corner as hard as anything I have seen...it's going to be an interesting next couple of weeks.

GTX...flare pattern is very tight but I attribute that to the drill pattern. In fact it flares a lot like my old Uranium Pearl drilled similarly.

When my buddy threw it the other night (ball speed 19-20 MPH and a rev rate about double of what I have) he hung the 2 board at 48 feet and it made the pocket flush. So yeah it revs hard and late when you get on it.

I'm not sure if that answered your question or not.

I just wanted to make sure I don't run into the same issue I had with the C+ flaring too high and not flaring enough

I drilled one up about a week ago with the pin 4 1/4 away from my pap and the MB past the VAL under my pap. (I like em rolling a little early) The first time I threw it was in league, and on the fresh I started with my passion and shot 186, 6/10 pins(bone headed on my part), I pulled the HRG out moved right playing out around 5-7 and shot 288 and 247. All I can say is "what a ball" I have been bowling well with it since I drilled it last week, super clean through the front and the middle and gets it in the back of the lane. This ball is great for med oil, mine didnt like the oil to much when I bowled on a couple different patterns.
