BuzzBomb death?
« on: November 14, 2008, 08:52:00 AM »
I love my BB and it's the first ball out of the bag for league. Just curious if anyone's BB has died or lost it's hook/hitting power. From looking at the balance hole, I can clearly see that the BB's cover stock is very thin compared to my other balls. I'm not sure if this is correct, but I've heard that thin covers=faster ball death.

I've been using mine for about a month and no issues. I clean my BB after the 2nd game and Clean/Dull every 12-15 games.

these balls are notorious for soaking up lane oil
i lost some reaction out of mine, and i got the oil and it came back with a vengance.

modern balls require maintenence  more than just regular cleaning imo
oil absorbition is a BIG factor on loss of reaction

Shermster,

There have been multiple posts about this subject of ball death. I believe that bowling balls today are like sponges and absorb lane oil at an ever increasing rate. Why? The faster the cover can wick away oil the more it hooks. Well, these pores become more and more clogged, saturated if you will with the lane oil that the speed at which the cover can wick away oil is deminished. Thus, less hook.

This is why I am very aggressive with my cleaning of the balls. I clean them at the lanes immediately upon completion of bowling. I spray the cover very-very heavy with ball cleaner to the point it runs off. I then let it sit until it starts to evaporate at which time I then I wipe the ball down. My theory is if the ball soaks oil, then it will soak the ball cleaner which should in turn dilute or dissipate the oil. Then every 12-15 games, I clean with Clean & Dull.

I have been using this method for 3-4 years and haven't had a ball die on me yet. (knock on wood)

I used to use Neo Tac Liquid Nitro, then switched to Black Magic Ultimate Rejuvenator as I found it to do a better job and have now switched to Valentino's Remedy RX as I feel is better yet. Here is a link to the Remedy RX as well as other great products Valentino's has.

Hot Water Bath = Good as New..

BB simply soaks up tons of oil, get it out and it's good as new..

This subject has been gone over and over. SO there's a wealth of information available about dull balls and oil.

Your best gauge is your own eye-balls. If it tells you the ball is not hooking as much or not hitting as hard AND the oil pattern has not changed, then just do an oil extraction or a rejuvenation.

Nuff said.

K.I.S.S philosophy Just make sure you take the coverstock back to the grit level you were using it at after oil extraction. This step seems to be left out by some.

I haven't seen this problem with my BB just yet, but I don't use it very often because there's not enough oil on the lanes here for me to use it.  It probably has less than 50 games on it so far.  It's basically a Tournament / Shark Pattern ball.  I keep up my equipment pretty well, and I haven't had a ball completely die on me yet, but I've had a couple that needed a session in the oven or in the Hook Again chamber.  This ball is $$$ on the right conditions, but there has to be some oil out there for it to work properly.

as said already:

you have soaker all there... it is built to pikk up oil to create friction
the coverstock is thin... but that is the same for almost every bowling ball except the older ones and the l/lm built ones...

but modern balls have a "thin" coverstock

now the most important thing is already what you do... clean it.. .keep it clean... and from time to time deoil it with know methods and no ball will ever die

you will see a change but when kept clean that change comes from coverstock surface change during plaiyng the ball which is unavoidable as friction roughs polished balls an polises rough balls.

MY pearl particle was at 1000grit and is almost polished not and has lost 5 boards and gained some lenght... so I take it back to 100 and everything is okagain.

have fun!
