Inverted: If you were to buy a NIB Lane#1 or any other ball for that matter, where would you buy it from?

CG: I don't buy bowling balls off eBay. Actually, I've never bought anything off eBay. I have a really good relationship with my driller. I've never paid more than $220 out the door for any Lane#1 ball.

Frankie: Thanks for noticing the sig. Not only is it accurate, but concise and to the point. Since you seem to have an infatuation with sigs, you might want to check out JustRico's. He too has found creativity and value in the use of the sig. I was so inspired when I read his, I thought I'd try something myself.

BTW Frankie, where do you buy balls? Where do you think is a great place to buy Lane#1's new release?

Well, I buy balls from my local pro shop, of course. And he's not stupid enough to stock that Lane#1 junk that would never sell. As far as where to buy Lane#1, who really cares is the appropriate answer. Besides, all I'd do is make a video of me and some friends rifling it off a loading dock, since this does seem to be "Pay Homage to BR Celebrities Day" and all.

Nice sig, loser. You really do have some sort of creepy infatuation with Ric, huh? Hahaha, pathetic.

The funniest part is that he acts like these are Ric's only two honor scores of his career when those scores are as significant to him as a dollar bill is to Bill Gates.

I wondered what thread steven slithered into after getting shellaced in the Lane #1 banned from pba thread. And then he puts that nice sig in his post. You're such chickenbleep, steven. Total loser, thinks #220 bucks is a good deal on a ball. If the rest of Cali thinks like you do, no wonder that state is in such dire financial straits!

CRD: OK, I'll bite. You're pandering for attention. Calm down.

Since you're in a thread dedicated to the next Lane#1 release (which turned out to be the Massacre), what are your thoughts on the ball? Is it as good as many reviewers here suggest? I don't have one, so nothing I can offer yet, but with your enthusiasm, you must be bursting to share.

On the subject of cost, you think $220 out the door (drilling, grips, slug, tax) is highway robbery for the highest end ball from any manufacturer? For instance, I see that a Storm Gravity Shift at Buddies is $155. If I buy that ball, it certainly seems reasonable that I'm going to pay close to another $65 for drilling, grips and slug -- assuming I'm using a top notch driller who doesn't give his time and services away.

But please, share your purchasing secrets. A lot of posters here could benefit.

I can't see me paying $65 for drilling, grips and slug from anyone. I see your point regardless.

It doesn't matter what you say. Right or wrong, you're going to be the beneficiary of harassment no matter what you say.

If the price point is the reason why people don't throw Lane #1, that's fine. If I'm only buying 3 balls a year anyway, there's not that big of a difference to deter me and many other bowlers.

The major problem I hear is from pro shop owner/operators who have to pay that extra 10-15%. Of course it is up to them to set their own price for the customer, but many want the same profit margin they get from other manufacturers. Maybe they don't want to deal with smaller distributors because of laziness, but better prices are available than what they're offered by the manufacturer in some cases.

Taylor: Thanks for the reply. Going back to Buddies, I see their professional drilling charge for everything is $50. Now the problem is any required adjustments. No matter how good Buddies is, I'm probably going to need some tweaking to get it absolutely right. My driller isn't going to do that for free for an outside ball/drill. Now throw in the additional cost of freebies I normally get for being a reliable in-house customer, and I haven't saved a thing.

Maybe CRD has a method of going about this I hadn't thought of.

send them a ball, have a thumb mold made..they keep them instock for you and every time you get a ball drilled it will fit perfect with no adjustments..or quit using lane 1 and your proshop guy prob wouldn't charge you for making adjustments...or buy a bevel knife and sander and do it yourself..

CG: Some good points other than the Lane#1 piece. When doing work, most drillers, mine included, don't care about the company label on the ball. An adjustment is an adjustment. If it comes from outside the shop, you pay.

So about 'send them a ball, have a thumb mold made..'. Isn't there a charge for shipping a ball across the country and getting it back? To the tune of around $50? I'm assuming there is also some charge associated with having thumb molds made. I'm still not seeing any real savings.

As far as 'or buy a bevel knife and sander and do it yourself..', thanks but no thanks. We're talking about the cost of proshop services, not how I can save money by doing things myself.

BTW, in all the calculations I've shown so far, I haven't added the tax associated with the Buddies purchase. For California, that's roughly another $15-$16.

$220 isn't looking so bad. I'd like to understand how I've been robbed on ball purchase and drilling.

CRD: As always, thanks for your interest.

Now, two things:

1) Your thoughts on the Lane#1 Massacre. That's the topic so you must have some burning ideas.
2) Why $220 is too much for a top of the line ball when it costs at least that much from Buddies. Thoughts?
