Golden Nugget vs Black Cherry Bomb
« on: December 07, 2003, 09:06:49 AM »
How does the Golden Nugget compare to the Black Cherry Bomb?  I am currently using the Solid Carbide, Black Cherry Bomb, and Cherry Bomb which will cover everything except floods and desert dry conditions.  Based on the reviews of the GN, it will probably fit between the Solid Carbide and Black Cherry Bomb.

Dizzle,

There is NO WAY, that the GN will fit between the Cherry and SD!  Depending on the layout, this ball would go between the SCB and the BCB or CB.  My GN has a little more length in oil, BUT that just allows me to play the outside line.  The particle cover alone will say that it cannot fit between the two reactive balls you suggest.  The Cherry looks like it hooks more because of the snappiness, BUT the CB could not play the oil or carrydown that the GN can.  The area that a GN owner needs to be concerned with is the layout of the ball in conjunction with the bowler's style.  I may chamge mine from 4 1/4 x 3, with the pin at 1:30 to the ring.  May lay it out with less length like 3x4.  Will keep up with it.

dizzle,

My POINT is that there is NO WAY that the GN will fit between the Cherry Bomb and the Silver Diamond, just by virtue of Cover alone.  The GN may not look as hooking as the Cherry because it is not a snappy backend ball, while the CB is.  Maybe it did not move for your driller for one reason or another, BUT it definitely handles more oil and carrydown than the Cherry or Silver, thus your statement of where the ball would fit in a Saw arsenal is not factual.

Dave,

(rant mode on)

That is why his name is "dizzy"; he, among many, mnay others here, doesn't seem to understand the difference in concepts between total hook and oil handling ability. A ball has to be placed within an arsenal based on the amount of oil it can handle, not on how much it hooks. This concept is one of the largest, and most significant misunderstandings in all of bowling ball technology and comprehension!
