Cherry Pearl Redrill
« on: May 04, 2009, 01:38:00 PM »
Hey everyone,

I have started this over at bbe also. here is the link with a picture of the layout now:
http://www.bowlingballexchange.com/showthread.php?t=30380

How should I redrill it to make it go longer and save more for the backend?

Suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Mike

My first suggestion would be to actually post a link to the picture here.  Not everyone here has a membership to that site.

pin over ring 1" above
and 1" to the right of ring

Hey Roy. Sorry, but I don't plan on getting rid of it. Plus it is the Cherry Pearl C2 not the Pearl Cherry Bomb. Never had one of those.

Here is a link straight to the picture and what I posted over there:

"Hey Guys,

I am still getting to much overlap between the Cherry Pearl and the Buzzbomb/R. I like the Buzzbomb/R in it's box condition and was thinking of redrilling the Cherry Pearl to be more angular. I have attached a picture of the CP, but it doesn't quite look like that right now because I has to fix cracking to the bridge and also between the ring finger and pin. The pin is now gone. so this is what I have for a reference to it. I was thinking of maybe moving the Pin above the middle finger to get more length and save more energy for the backend. My Buzzbomb/R is drilled similar to this but with the pin and cg up higher. The Pin is at least 1" above the ring finger.

Will this work for what I want to do? I like how arcy the BB/R is the way I have it set up and was wanting the CP to be more of a snap reaction.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike"

The drilling I suggested is for a hockey stick reaction.

its such a long pin it is loaded with thumb weight, talk to your driller about doing a double thumb on it, i think you would get more length and a bigger backend

if not a weight hole on your val 2.5" down would suffice to create more length and an enhanced backend

Thanks guys,

I printed out the Dual Angle Layout Technique, Gradient Line Balance Hole, and Double Thumb Drilling .pdf's from Morich's website to give to my driller and see what he says. I think that will work for the Cherry Pearl for what I am looking for. Then I will just have to adjust the surface after that. Moving the pin higher will help me get away from the plug of the fingers to correct cracking in the bridge that keeps chipping away since it is only slightly larger than the finger inserts. My fingers are loose in the inserts because of this. I'll try and talk to him about it this Friday before league. Unfortunately, this is my last week of league and them I am out of town for a week and a half. I guess he will have time to study up.

Thanks again,
Mike

As Triggs stated, the ball has thumb weight and is laid out for an earlier roll. Without plugging the whole ball, just the weighthole, you may be able to get more length and more backend by adjusting the weighthole.

You'll need to end with max side and finger weight and zero top. =:^D

Hey Beans,

I don't think a 5X3 would work since the pin-cg is about 3.5"-4".

T-god,

I don't have a problem with redrilling it to a new patter. I know it has been drilled once before but the finger pitches were done incorrectly and then it started to crack from the pin to the ring finger. The plug work to fix the pitches has been slowly chipping out since it is so thin after redrilling it there. It is like having a snugger fitting (but still loose) vacu grips. I can't stand it though. I like my fingers to be snug.

I am going to drop the ball off with the .pdf prints that I made tomorrow. My Crystal diamond has a nice scratch mark where my track is to determine my exact PAP again to see if it has changed since the last time I had it checked. That way we can be as accurate as possible when applying the double thumb patter. Hopefully it works the way I want it to.

Thanks,
Mike

5x0 wouldn't work then but the 5x3 would work fine...

If you're going to re-drill the whole ball, I would go with something similar to the first stacked layout. Place the pin higher up, using max finger and side weight. =:^D

Max side and finger will help the reaction a bit more vs having no side and thumb. Just trying to get the most out of the ball. =:^D
