Question for all Sawheads ...Your input is appreciated!!
« on: November 01, 2006, 12:36:04 PM »
Ok guys...got a guy that throws 6.5-7.25 mph. Does turn it a bit (older gentleman) who cannot get a polished urethane ball to go straight enough. Is there any difference between the Crystal clear, Red XXXL, or Black XXXL as for the plastic hardness? He will be getting a 14#er..likes to play straighter up (5-10ish). If any one wants to part with a used or new one let me know. Thanks guys for any help!!

I don't think the hardness is significantly different, but the core is WAY higher in the crystal clear vs. the XXXL, I think the difference seen would be due to that.

The core is way higher?

I think I read on here that the shell is a little harder on the clear and the diamond is a little smaller on the clear so the differential will be a tad lower.  I'm pretty sure a few people have said that the clear is the straightest of the three by a one or two boards.  The shell on the clear seems to mark up pretty easy to me, so it seems odd that others say that it is the hardest.  My red look newer than Ron Clifton's clear, and I've had mine longer.  If I'd have known, I would have thrown his side by side of mine to see for sure.  His span is very close to mine so I think I could give it a pretty fair comparison.

Is your speed measurement a typo?  6.5-7.25 mph is extremely slow.

Believe it or not this is his speed...I watched him throw and "saw" it with my own eyes. Everyone told me he struggles so much with his urethane, I needed to help. Thanks for all the help!

My XXXL is drilled as a spare and for Desert conditions. It has 1/2 oz NEG side weight with the PIN above and between the fingers. The harder I throw it the more it skids. If I keep the ball on the lane I never miss a 10 pin spare. Excellent ball. handmeDN

He should drop more than one pund in ball weight.

at that speed, any ball will move.  Show him the two balls and let him pick which he wants.  How much of a price difference is there between the two?

Thank you all for all the advise and stats. I think I'm going with the clear..mainly because He will sacrifice a little hit for a little straighter of a ball. Thanks again all for your quick responces!
