Continued use of the Red Death
« on: December 10, 2009, 12:57:59 AM »
I originally compared the Red Death to the Mega Friction and they seemed to play the same line in oil.  I already had games on the Mega Friction so it might not have been a fair comparison.

Since then I got several games on the Red Death and the ball tamed down considerably.  I could no longer compare the Red Death to the Mega Friction and being close in reaction.  but thats what I expected and hoped for.

The Red Death gets through the oil well now reads the break point and has a good move to the pocket from the break point.  The ball does not have an over under reaction, which is great.  The ball has great continuation and its amazing how it keeps the pins low.  The best entry to the pocket I''ve found with this ball is entering the pocket a little late and the pin carry is tremendous. It keeps the pins low, continues to drive, very little if any deflection and drives the 5 pin even when coming into the pocket late.

I thought about getting the Blue Death to compliment the Red Death, but instead right now I''m talking with Eric about how to drill a Bounty Hunter pearl.

Thanks for reading. Responses welcome.

My Red Death at oob was consistent and as you''ve described - not much over-under reaction.

I have since then changed the cover stock to 4k and the ball came alive as I had a hard time keeping it to the pocket.

I then applied the secret sauce at 4k Abralon and it became much much more controllable and had a more pronounced movement to the pocket. This is a great combination for me.

All games were on a freshly oiled lanes - 40'' and flared about 4 more feet.

I had it drilled 30* x 5.5" x 30* putting the pin an inch over bridge.

Nicanor: So now are you saying its weaker then the MF.. now that it has some oil in it? Or is it still stronger?

I''m going to test the Mega Frcition and Red Death some more, but with a little use of the Red Death its toned the ball down where as I can stay with the ball longer then the MF.  Carry is better with the Red Death at least at this early stage.  The league and pot bowling I bowl in one particular house, I can use the Mega Friction for the first game and since I don''t care for swinging the MF, I change bowling balls.  Thats why I say I can stay with the Red Death longer.  I can open the lanes more with the Red Death and the carry of light hits is amazing.  I think after a few games on both bowling balls, the MF is a better oiler and does cover a fair amount of boards, but plays straighter up the boards better.

I''ll get some more games on both bowling balls and compare again.
