big curve
« on: December 23, 2010, 06:40:55 AM »
Hey guys,

I've never bought a lane #1 product, but I was considering a big curve.  I've seen some people complain that this ball has short longevity.  Has this been an issue for anyone here?

Also, how do you think this would match up for a low speed/low revver?

Thanks

short longevity??

pftttt... with mine I bowled well over 100 games with it..still could not see a track on the sucker at all! But I do keep it really clean and refinish the polish every 20 games or so. Its a great ball, but not a hook monster on the back end compared to a lot of balls out there..I think any style bowler would love it..hits harder than anything I've ever thrown

I've thrown over 100 games on it as well and see no problems with the longevity.  It did take me a while to get the correct set-up with the ball so that the ball surface matched up well with my league lane conditions, but once i did this ball runs the same line day in and day out.  Not a monster hooking ball like i was hoping for, but once i learned how to throw it it has put up high scores for me.

So the consensus is that this ball doesn''t hook as much as expected?  It seems from the marketing and the ratings that this should be a ball that hooks a ton.

I was hoping that this might be a good non-pearl companion for the Anarchy that I have.  I''m definitely looking for something that hooks a lot

because I probably have the weakest release for a 200 average bowler that you have ever seen.  After so many wrist problems I do need equipment that can do a lot of work for me.  I also need to look into getting a good wrist brace too.

Oh it hooks a lot, just more in the midlane than on the back end. Don't let that fool you though, it still hooks a good amount, just wont be as "angular" on the backend as a lot of balls out there

The boys in San Antonio are putting out some of the best coverstocks in the business at this point. The balance of performance and longevity are second to none in the industry so I don't think there are any worries there.

As for the hook issue, the ball is no Super Carbide Bomb but it will still get the job done on all but the slickest of lanes. With the correct layout and surface it will handle anything that a solid resin should be able to handle.

Then you don't really need a ball that hooks a lot.
In my opinion you can use a) some lessons to get you a better release, and b) possibly a writs device, depending on the results of those lessons, and c) possibly a ball AND/OR a drilling/surface combination that will optimize the backend without losing a sense of control.
Power doesn't come from a lot of hook but from optimized breakpoint control.

charlest,

i completely agree with you.  I'm looking at getting some lessons this spring. The guy who drills my stuff is also a certified coach but is building a new pro shop that isn't done yet.  I am also thinking about getting the storm wristguard that can lock the wrist in place, but I do have concerns about trying to deal with that in the middle of the season.

I just feel that I could also benefit from having a ball with a bigger hook potential that would complement the pearlized ball I have (Anarchy).  I might not be right, but I'm just looking to try something
