diamond shuffle
« on: August 05, 2003, 08:09:26 AM »
So what's next for Lane 1 diamond core. Have they done all they can with a diamond?

Diamond core:
 cut top
 with a single nugget centered
 a single nugget of set
 2 mini nuggets
 2 mini nuggets stacked
 Bomb core
 Super bomb core

What's next?
Bomb core with 1 nugget centered
bomb core with 1 nugget offset
bomb core with a nugget offset to the side to create a stronger MB

above with Just a diamond core
above with a side of the Diamond cut off for an asymmetrical ball

how about 2 smaller diamonds stacked

Lane 1 Just another ball of the month club?

Doug, it's exactly the XL that got me in a hesitant state about purchasing Lane 1 equipment.  I tried and tried every release possible to get that ball to work right.  I guess I'm not the only one to struggle with that piece.  It was either too strong for dry or squirly in any amount of oil.  I couldn't carry a tissue with that ball.

I'm actually a pretty hi tracker at a 3/4 roller release.  I do tend to flip the ball of my hand though....it's just my whole style is irregular so I had a hard time using Lane 1.

On the other hand, the Super Carbide (not bomb) is a true monster for me.  I heard from other users that this ball was lame, I wish it was.  I can't use it on anything less than the Red Sea.  It doesn't play well on wet/dries so it doesn't get used.

Like I mentioned before about the competent driller, I'm having it redone for earlier roll like they should be.  What I mean about competent drilling is.....operators should be able to compensate your style with a matching drill to get the best out of the ball.

The price though I find it to be more than what one would want to pay, but if you're willing to experiment with companies, then you have to fork out the dough.

I guess it's all about finding the right piece in their line up, and which I'll agree they will not force equipment to the public.  How many websites can you see that only have 9 balls listed for sale??

Changing the pink Raspberry to the black Raspberry is a given. The ball didn't sell so they simply changed the color.

Going from the Black Raspberry to the Blueberry was not only a color change but I do believe a core change as well. I believe the old C2 core had the diamonds separated while the new C2 core has the diamonds stacked together. The Cherry PEarl and the Emerald was the same issue. The Cherry had the diamonds separated while the Emerald has them stacked. This is the reason for the Emerald not having the booming backend of the Cherry possessed.

The cranberry is a different core altogether.

My mistake on the Cranberry, was thinking of the Pink/Black/Blueberry.

I knew they changed some of the cores from stacked to separated mini diamonds (or vice versa), but I never kept up with it.  Since bowler/lane/cover is so much more important than core, I wonder how much difference separating or stacking the mini diamonds makes?  I certainly did not get any exploding backends with my Cherry.

quote:
The Green Bomb was not as versatile as people wanted and with the new core shape the drillers had issues getting the ball to react like people wanted. It was very tame for a particle when compared to the HPH's etc. It didn't read the midlane very well. The core had too much differential for the coverstock.

Good explanation, thanks.  I'm surprised Lane #1 didn't realize this before they released it.

quote:
The Pearl Bomb is a well liked ball for most but the reaction you obtain from it can easily be duplicated by the Blueberry or Cherry Bomb. The same problem that plagued the Green Bomb in the midlane showed up here too.

The only thing wrong with that is that is doesn't fit in with their philosophy to release significantly different balls.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

The Cherry Pearl C2 I had 4-5 months ago had a major skid/snap attitude about it. I mean this ball was a monster on the backend. I have a very similarly drilled Emerald and it is much tamer.

I do not have the RG #'s in front of me but by stacking the diamonds, you lower the RG value which induces quicker roll. The first ball to use the stacked diamonds was the LRG then the Super Carbide. Both balls have very strong rolls to them.

The deal with discontinuing the Pearl Bomb might be a matter of economics as well. They might have decided that the added ball in their line did not warrant making a special weightblock for just that ball. Remember they do not make their own blocks, they pay to have them made. Storm does this too....they dumped the UltraHot soon after the Too Hot because they used the same core. The Eraser went with the Erase It. The Tour Power is gone, it was the only ball to use that core anyway.  I suspect the same issue holds with the demise of the Viper.

Bill,
You have way to much time. very cool.

How about a superbomb core with dual stacked diamonds and the bottom cut. that should make for a skid/snap core

I couldn't sleep last night, and I love core design stuff.  I am thinking of going back to school so that I can start working at it.

That double diamond/double mini diamond core makes a Pacific Storm core look centre heavy!!, could be a Lane#1 version of the Aftershock
