Droid Question

I am new with Lane 1 and purchased the Driod after keep my friends ball for about week but now its not giving the same response.. Has anybody else noticed a difference after using this ball a few games... I know how to change the cover stock but you should get the same response for at least 25 games.....

anybody else hear anything else on this ball...

And how many games did he use it before he "gave" it to you?

These new balls absorb oil like nobody's business. One guy noticed a loss in reaction in a Violent eruption, a polished pearl, after only 30 games. Dull, sanded balls are subject to more oil than a polished pearl under normal circumstances.

So it could have absorbed enough oil to affect its performance.

Additionally, balls need to have their surfaces refreshed on a regular basis. Some (like balls with a 4000 grit surface) need it much more often than one with a 1000/2000 grit surface.  One Storm rep even said that one of their new super-high performance coverstocks should significant wear after only 7 games!! That's crazy, but true.

The first thing I'd try is a surface refreshing. If that doesn't help, then I try an oil extraction.

Of course, all this is extraneous if the real change has been in the amount of oil put down by the house ....

WOW - The ball was purchased new - It might have 25 games at the most but wasn't expecting to have to resurface this soon.  Thanks for the quick input.... The ball was great but this was unexpected...

The biggest thing with the solid Droid is that is really needs oil in the heads to shine, otherwise it burns up fast and hits kind of flat. I don't feel that cover matches up with that huge core real well, it is real condition specific. Now the Droid Pearl on the other hand is pure money, it gets down the lane great and finishes stronger than any other pearl that I have owned and I have owned a bunch.

i love the solid Droid its has a great mid lane read, mine is still kicking strong well after 100 games on it, did you try to clean it, like dish washer or have your proshop guy take the oil out of the ball.

My Droid Solid is drilled with pin about 2:00 cg and mass bias stacked and it is never real aggressive on the backend it is more mid lane and continuous in the back. But like I have said it really needs head oil or it will burn up in a hurry and hit real soft. Try throwing some polish on it to get it down lane and liven up the backend.

Thanks for the responses -- The ball is currently sanded up to 4000 and does have some polish -- Will attach a screen shot of the pin location when I get home... Also the ball has almost a 4inch pin...  My house doesn't have clean backend and oil gets pushed down... I might try sanding to 3000 with a good polish...  The pin is near the right side also....

Please keep in mind I AM 2 finger bowler with speed....

2000 is the OOB finish. Normally higher speeds need more surface to perform, try going back to 2000 and even try 1000. I have had great success with my heavier oil balls at 1000, I think if you throw some polish on either 1000 or 2000 you will find the back end you are looking for. But again make sure you have enough oil for this ball it is very dependent on it in the heads to rev up that big core.

Sorry but this ball doesnt hook in heavy oil....  Great for high backend but not really a heavy oil ball -- Just giving you what I have seen after a few games...  the first 55 games a beast but now its over...  Even sanded the ball to 2000 -- My oldblack Zone checks up before this ball....

From what I've seen, Lane #1 (among others) greatly exaggerates the oil-handling capabilities of bowling balls. This ball is a medium/medium-heavy oil ball. At best it will handle a little more oil than a house shot, but it won't handle a lot of oil. A friend of mine has a Big Curve. Same thing you're seeing, except his never hooked a lot. It hooks the same amount on light to heavy and has the same motion as well.

I completely understand. This friend I'm talking about has the same span as I do, so I throw his stuff to see how it would roll for me. The only one of his that hooked for me was a cobalt bomb solid. Even then, it wasn't a whole lot.
