If you're looking to try a "different" Lane #1 ball...
« on: September 16, 2009, 03:35:47 PM »
...and by "different" I mean something that doesn't have that traditional Lane #1 look, I would suggest finding a Supernova XP if you can get still your hands on one.

There seems to have been a push lately to find something to try out (Maine Man's Chainsaw Massacre experiment, etc.) that gets away from the traditional Lane #1 look, but I found it by going back to the XP. It's a truly angular ball if you polish the factory finish up.

I haven't had to go away from my 900Global Break S75 much lately, but I did earlier this week when I needed something with a little more pop in the back, and threw my XP for a couple of games. Nothing fancy about the drilling -- pretty much a straight-up label drill. It just worked.

I've used balls newer than the XP (such as the BuzzBomb/R) and they don't have the kind of backend that ball has, which makes me wonder why we never saw the Fusion core again, or some variant of the coverstock that is on the XP. Da*n good ball, though. And it definitely isn't in the same general "look" as most of my other stuff.

Jess

Agreed....I loved my XP...why did I ever sell it? I have no clue. Somebody on here offered me the right price for it and that was that I guess....

Oh well....

Agreed Jess.  Totally.  Got my first one and loved it.  Put it up for a while with all the newer stuff coming out and loved those.  Brought it back out again and kicked myself in the azz for ever putting it away.  I fell in love with it all over again.  So much so, that I've since purchased 4 more just to have, just in case this one ever cracks or anything.

Absolutely love the core/cover combo on this ball.  It is definitely one of the best that Lane 1 has ever put out.

Shame you either have it drilled wrong for your style, or just wrong cover prep.

Both of the Supernovas were beasts. Should try and fix that...

Absolutely! I recently redrilled my supernova that I got back after giving it to my friend. It is scary strong and has the biggest backend I've ever seen out of a ball.

much agreed jess although we dis agreed on the original chain saw]i totally agree about the validity of the xp
i am fortunate enough to have one still NIB
i had it listed f/s for a while , but realized it was too good of a ball to sell.

like you, i wondered why no more fusion cores or xp cover variants
i seem to match up better with diamond based cores rather than bomb cores anyway, but the combo on the xp was a real winner.

Agreed. The XP is usually the first ball out of bag, and can be used on about anything except for the extremes.

I hope Lane#1 brings back Fusion core at some point. The cover on the original Supernova was OK, the cover/core combo on the XP is exceptional. Depending on drill, you can produce anything from strong arc to real skid/flip.
