Dynamo -- First Impressions
« on: May 18, 2009, 04:20:20 AM »
After much thought, I had the ball is laid out with the pin  right above the ring, and CG stacked directly below. This was a 3.25" pin to CG for setup. I didn't want a weight hole, and given the lower-RG core, I wanted to be sure I reserved some backend for the ball.

I picked the ball up at the shop before our year end scratch league rolloff. I had no intention of using it in competition not knowing what the Dynamo would do. But out of curiosity, I decided to throw a few Dynamo shots in a warm-up practice game on a freshly oiled lane.

I knew after the second shot that this is very special ball. The Dynamo revs up up early, but unlike many other high end oil balls, continues through with some serious backend. It was odd watching it because OOB, it looks to be 1000 grit abralon at the max. The immediate love for this piece created a dilemma. For the rolloff, there were hundreds of dollars on the line. So it was no time to be getting used to a new piece.

I threw caution to the wind and went with the Dynamo. Given the flatter/longer rolloff pattern, it turned out to be right choice. I averaged 242 over the 6 games, which I was very happy with given the struggles being experienced by the opposing teams. The Cells and Resurgences being used by others just weren't turning the corner and creating the Dynamo's angle of entry. The Dynamo was really tuning some heads.

I'm a big Lane#1 fan, but I've never been as excited about a Lane#1 piece as I am about the Dynamo. That new Hurricane Core is a fabulous 'twist' to the traditional diamond, providing a combination of heavier oil mid-lane and backend I haven't seen in past offerings.

There has been a lot of bashing about the Dynamo being 'Lane#1 Ball of the Year', but based on personal experience, there is no exaggeration in that label. This Dynamo is a winner and I'll probably end up with 3 of them set for different conditions.

absolutely my favorite all time lane 1 ball  it is amazing, if they every wrap a pearl cover around this thing, I am all over it.

you are right most of the 15# balls i see are at 1-2k abralon, i took mine to 4k and added a very light coat of polish on it and it is the ulitmate THS ball, our recent state tourney resulted in me averaging 231 for 9 games with a stupid 165 game in the mix

lane 1 told me to wait till the ball got a sheen from the lanes to change the cover which is exactly what I did and it is money

you will like this ball more and more as you throw it.  Reminds me so much like the Black Raspberry

+1 to all the above.  The ball is so amazing it is too much for the houses here.  I had to put it in the closet for now.  I'm thinking about changing the surface a little and bringing her back out.

Another great attribute to this ball is how well it takes to changes...  I've taking mine to 1000 for even more bite.  Normally I like to play across center out to 10 and to the pocket, but at 1000 I've been pushing the ball harder, longer and wider and it just keeps coming like a freight train...

I will bet my 2 Dynamos roll better than anyone elses....LOL!!!

So much so I was called a Cheater....TWICE!!!

at tourneys because I had a look nobody else had... Including the Virtuals and Cells...

My roll and rev rate matches up perfect so far with the 2 layouts I chose. I will without a doubt have 8 of these put in storage for myself...

nice figjam to you as well lol

Beans is dead on this is my all time favorite ball period (that includes my gold rhinos, tude III, storm Trauma and Eraser)

of course i only shot 658 last night (with a 160 out the gate) but i heard the murmurs of sandbagger behind me (gotta love summer leagues and the slow start to scoring)

Inverted: LOL..Honestly, if things hadn't gone well with the Dynamo, I would have reported it too. What was impressive to me was that I was up against bowlers who are more talented than I am, and the Dynamo was the difference. If everyone had been shooting telephone numbers, there wouldn't be much to say, at least from this episode.

All right, you win -- you got more bang for the buck than I did.

he may have got you w/ and ebay tropical storm, but i can guarantee you had more fun w/ your dynamo

dynamo is just flat out entertaining to use, and watch what it does

it is a recovery monster, and you can go DEEP with this ball on fresh, and pin devastation is common, although not up tho the standards of my c/2, but very good none the less

Great figjam Steven. I'm hoping/planning to get a Dynamo shortly myself, as well as either an XP or the Chainsaw.

Here's another FIGJAM to add to this thread.

I finally got to use my Dynamo last weekend at the Maryland State tourney in singles and doubles (fresh oil) and shot 758 and 732.  I couldn't use it in teams because they only oiled in front of the singles and doubles sets.  I used my BuzzBomb/R in teams and shot 753 with it.  For those keeping score at home, that's a 2243 AE (249.2 average), about 200 pins more than I have ever shot in a tournament, woohoo!
