stuck in ball buying rut
« on: January 06, 2004, 05:06:43 AM »
Hey Guys,
I was wondering if you guys would be willing to help me.  I have been wanting to purchase a new ball for a few months now.  I have been looking at all the companies and have really tried to pick a ball.  I was looking for something for medium oil, something with good length and a good turn to the pocket.  I have thrown many companies, and right now I have a columbia icon, storm lightning flash, and a hammer claw black ice for when they're toasted.  I have been seriously contemplating the Emerald C2 or a storm x-factor.  I have read a lot of the reviews and the topics in the forums.  I was hoping you could finally help me decide.  For the past 2 years I have wanted to go with a Lane 1 ball but none of the proshops in my area even know they exist.  I want to be the only one cuttin' the rack with a saw!!!  Plus I have never read a negative review about them on this site.

i hadn't even contemplated a golden nugget.  How are they?  Has the particle coverstock shown any signs of dying to early.  Since my Icon I have tried to stay clear of the particle cover stocks

Tommy, I have the Emerald with a 2 1/2" PIN and drilled 4 x 4 with Pin beside ring finger. It has always been the first ball out of my bag. Excellent ball for light oil to medium-light oil..........However, I just received my Golden Nugget from Doug Sterner today and let me tell you, even though I haven't had this ball long enough to give it a review, I can tell you already this ball will also work very well on light oil up to medium oil. Haven't had any oil heavier yet to see how well it will do in heavier oil. Due to my slower speed and low revs, I have never had a ball where I could move deep and get the ball back to the pocket with any authority at all.....Well, let me tell you, I could today with this ball. This ball does not quit or roll out on the back end. It will cover a wider range of conditions than my Emerald. I'd recommend going with the Golden Nugget. It's way more versatile than anything I have ever owned. Thursday, I will be bowling in a different house that oils to 40-42 feet with hardley any wall at all on the outside. I'm anxious to see how it performs there.

Contact Doug Sterner if you are interest in a Golden Nugget. he has the best price of anyone on this site, plus if you want him to drill it, you will get the most accurate drilling job you have ever had. He has drilled 4 balls for me since last August. Contact him at DougsProShop@aol.com

drop me an email tommy I'll be more than happy to help you out in any way I can.

I have become very fond of the Buzzsaws and I think it's starting to show with my customer base on BR here.

The only Buzzsaws I have not really cared for were the Green Carbide Bomb and the Pro Purple. The Silver Diamond is an iffy one too but the others I love to death.

And I have not seen any signs of deterioration in my Nugget as of yet. I'd say I am approaching 50 games and although our lanes are putting a beating on it, the ball is still hitting like a ...well...BUZZSAW!!!!

Thanks guys you've helped me big time.  I e-mailed Doug Sterner today and hopefully I'll be crushing the pins with the new Nugget.  You have all been great with your responses.
